Well if I had put grunge bands I would have been told AIC, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam weren't grunge, if I had put 90's bands that would have included loads of bands including oasis, pulp, radiohead and blur, if I had put American 90's bands that would include STP and they aren't grunge or from Seattle.
So it seems whatever I would have put down would have been criticised by some smart a$s.
As for Kurt not wanting to be part of a scene, its a bit unfortunate as he was.

The whole idea of a Seattle "scene" was thought up by Sub-Pop to help market their acts.
well than you have trumped yourself, dis validating your own statement.

I voted Soundgarden because the writing reminds me of Zeppelin in many ways but my fav Seattle sound band wasn't an option in this poll, perhaps because they were from Bellevue and not Seattle. I'm speaking of course of Queensrÿche. For the most part they were just another Seattle area group but the album Empire was/is iconic. I'll still listen to it front to back all these years later.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+1!

Queensryche was arguably the best of the grunge genre and "Empire" is an outstanding album.

I had to kind of take myself back to the time period, and think about it a little.

At the time, I didn't like Nirvana at all. It took me until the Unplugged performance to appreciate any of it. Pearl Jam had some great songs, so did AIC. But I was completely blown away by Chris Cornell's voice. Badmotorfinger was one of the coolest albums I'd ever heard in my life at the time. First time I heard Outshined, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Looking California, and feeling Minnesota? I had to go with Soundgarden.

BTW: Seriously? Fighting over which bands were from Seattle or not? We all know the bands in the discussion when the term gets brought up. Why split hairs? When people talk about L.A. bands, technically they could be from Whittier or Anaheim. Does the rest of the world care?
