Something in this writer wonders, if there had not been The Beatles, would there have been the British Explosion in the USA?

Ergo, would the Stones have become known across the codfish pond? Would they have had the impetus and stimulus without The Beatles?

of course they would have. you cant tie the stones success to the beatles.
the stones would have come here anyways. every one of their influences
were here in the USA. there were so many popular bands and musicians coming up
at that time, sure there would have been a British Explosion. the beatles were just one of the bands that were able to enjoy it, they didnt cause it.

How did you arrive at that conclusion? You say they didn't cause it. Who or what did?

4 guys is hardly an invasion. lol just because the beatles were one of the first groups through the gates to come over here, albeit the biggest of the first wave, doesnt mean they are responsible for the whole thing. i know most beatles fans want to believe that.
along with the beatles there were several brit bands with numbers on our charts.
the thing that set it off was people calling the record stores for albums of these bands that we didnt have in stock and were hard to get. requests kept coming and the demand for records were starting to be met here in the US of brit bands. record sales jumped rather quickly for these bands in a short time which got a lot of folks attention.
thing is, the requests stacked for month before orders had opportunity to get filled.
record sales for these band went from nothing to thousand and thousands in short order.
once we were able to get them, we ordered by the thousands to fill the requests and to keep some in stock. so the beatles being the biggest act in the UK where obviously invited
quickly over here to fill the demand. just because they were the first big act invited over doesnt mean they were responsible. there were several bands on demand that came as well.
Dusty Springfield, having launched a solo career, became the first non-Beatle act during the invasion to have a major U.S. hit with "I Only Want to Be With You". Chad & Jeremy, Peter and Gordon, The Animals, Manfred Mann, Petula Clark, Freddie and the Dreamers, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, Herman's Hermits, The Rolling Stones, The Troggs, and Donovan The Kinks and The Dave Clark Five The Who and The Zombies all soon followed. granted the beatles were the biggest act, it would be unfair to the rest of these bands to suggest the beatles started it all. if we go that route then it would be fair to say that carroll james actually caused it all when he played i want to hold your hand by the beatles at WWDC radio on dec 17 1963, the first time a beatles song was aired in the US. or we could give the award to walter cronkite when he ran a story about beatlemania on the cbs evening news just a day or so before. the beatles being the biggest act in the UK at that time would naturally be first invited over here for the attraction of it all. so no, the beatles didnt cause it, they were a part of a bigger picture.

Then where did you get that info, man?
I'm pretty sure you aren't as old as I am and I was 11 years old in '64,I experienced "Beatle mania"....and I know for sure you weren't selling records then.
See alot of y'all weren't even a gleam in your old man's eyes when this happened, and the intenet history of all things great and small is revisionist history for the most part,so I don't blame a younger person for not knowing something first hand, you only think you know what you read if you weren't there.
And another thing "classic rock" radio stations are anything but what was playing full time on the stations back then...Motown ruled the Top 40 charts in the '60s and it wasn't until FM came into being that AOR stations started playing whole sides of albums and you heard songs that weren't mainstream....yeah that's right,we listened to all this stuff on AM radio mostly for the decade of the '60s.

And BTW,I remember the late '50s and Elvis,Buddy Holly,Ray Charles,Bo Diddley and others,I was exposed to people like T-Bone Walker,Bobby Blue Bland,Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters and B.B.King,because my Uncle who is 9 years older and his friends were playing R&R and R&B in bands and I watched them practice and perform that music at around the same time the Beatles and Stones and Eric Burdon were learning it.
Want to tell me all about that?

I believe that it's pretty well an accepted fact by music historians that the Beatles were the leading vanguards of the British Invasion. We had seen some guys like Cliff Richards who enjoyed moderate success but it was the Beatles who kicked down the door so others could get in line for the British Invasion.Whether or not the Stones could've done it had there been no Beatles is pure conjecture and no one could say for sure if that would've been the case. The consensus of opinion has long been that The Beatles led the way and the others just followed on their bootheels.
