i know this is kind of late, but i still can't believe this is determined legal by a vote of 8-1. for one thing, isn't a funeral a private thing? and also couldn't the protests be considered freedom of speech? but my main argument is why the hell hasn't anyone beat the crap out of these sickos?

my best friend, who i have known for almost ten years (since fourth grade) is going to basic this year. if anything happened to him and there were protesters at his funeral, i don't care how many years i get for it, i'm going to get the hardest object i can find and beat the living sh*t out of these despicable worms of people, and there will be ten other people right there with me. somebody needs to seriously teach these people a lesson. throw some rocks through their windows, etc.

sorry i just had to get that off my chest. i always get riled up when i see images of these people holding signs that say "thank god for dead soldiers" i don't know what kind of god they worship, but it's not the one i believe in.

alright, now i'm done. thanks for letting me vent.

The people who do it are scumbags or even worse, but they stay off private property and there is freedom of speech. I don,t agree with it and think they should all die a horrible death but its their right to do it. Kinda ironic to protest the ones fighting for their right to hold there protest.

They seem to completely forget that it was a HUMAN BEING that died, not some mystical thing supporting the war, but a person, who ate, slept, had a family and friends and went to work just like them. They just don't seem to think at all.

I think that protesting at a funeral is just as sickening as desecrating a dead body. It is not only disrespectful to the dead and their family but it is an abomination on a sacred religious ceremony.Freedom of speech is OK as long as long as it doesn't infringe on someone's right to partake in a solemn religious ceremony.People that mourn should also have the freedom to do so without some radical crackpots disrupting their final farewells to their loved ones.The lawmakers should act fast and put the lid on these protests right away-this is another incident of political correctness going overboard.

Ironic, isn't it? The lowlife skells who protest military personnel's funerals seem to forget or are simply ignorant to the fact that the deceased died protecting their right to act like 'anal orifices' at even such solemn occasions. As this is a military function and of course, a highly personal function, I firmly believe such disruptions should be made a Federal crime with mandatory, hard jail time. If not, eventually these maggots will get the balls to pull this crap at Arlington Cemetery during 'selected' solemn ceremonies.

Here lies the problem. To stop them is putting a limit on freedom of speech. I would like to run them down with a truck but making a law against it might be the first step towards something that our heros have died trying to prevent. I am not sticking up for the protesters I hate them for what they are doing.

I don't believe in limiting free speech. So how about this...I'll invite anyone that wants to protest to do so in my yard, then we can see what's stronger; their first amendment rights, or my second amendment rights...

i agree with what you're all saying, but the law seems to be good at finding loopholes to get around these situations. make the protests illegal, and chalk it up to something else. disturbing the peace, infringing on religious rights, etc.

There are or at least should be instances where the boundries of free speech are considered far over-stepped.For instance it is a crime(at least it is in Canada)to proclaim the holocaust was a hoax or didn't exist.A couple of years ago there was a Nazi sympathizer deported to his country of birth for publicly denying the holocaust.The same should go for people who disrupt funerals as they are severely infringing on people's right to attend a solemn religious ceremony.I don't think that the original spirit of freedom of speech was to allow whoever say whatever they want with impunity.After all it is illegal to shout Fire! in a crowded theatre so it should be to interupt someone's final farewell.

See, this is a classic example of in the US where not only is our Constitution abused because this is NOT what our forefathers meant but the politically correct ilk are afraid to challenge such abuses. It seems that your Government has the right balance and attitude toward such things.
