ok guys, im wondering whats the bluesiest stones album?
ive never been a big stones fan, but there are probably 20 or so songs i do actually like.
20 is probably a small dent in the actual numbers of stones songs there is.
so which album is probably the most blues like as far as the guitar playing goes?

Most of their earliest recordings from the 60s are their bluesiest as Brian Jones had brought them together as Brian Jones and his Rolling Stones,an obvious nod to Muddy Water's Hootchie Man.Some of the albums are:12X5,England's Newest Hitmakers-The Rolling Stones,The Rolling Stones:Now,Aftermath,Got Live If You Want It,December's Children(and everybody's),Big Hits(High Tides and Green Grass).
The 1st 4 albums are very, very blues oriented and Mick is at his best blues singing voice in these years-he doesn't even sound white let alone British. On December's Children their covers of I'm Movin On and Route 66 is worth buying the album for plus they do a great bluesy verssion of George Jones' You Better Move On.
Their post 1970 stuff couldn't hold a candle to their old blues standards.

ive never heard any of their very early stuff, not that i know of anyways.
so is it fair to say that the stones went from blues to rock n roll over the yrs?

The Stones started as purely an R&B band as Brian got his grounding playing with the likes of Alex Kormer and many of Britain's top blues acts.He was extremely proficient at slide guitar(listen to their cover of Howlin' Wolf's Little Red Rooster) and a fabulous blues harp player. He was deeply steeped in the blues but later on as Mick and Keith wrenched more control of the group from him they started leaning more towards rock.

hum...... to hear keith say it hes all blues.

ya know, i honestly dont know the difference between R&B and blues.
i dont hear any "blues" in R&B, i hear soul, but not blues.
there are way to many artists labeling themselves as R&B, when they are actually rap
or something, only because its cool to say your an R&B artist these days.
the whole R&B thing just throws me seriously. i dont get it.

The real R&B acts were Joe Tex,Otis Redding,Sam&Dave,Peaches&Herb,James Brown and a host of other 60s greats. The crowd that proclaim themselves R&B artists today are no more R&B than Justa Beaver is thrash metal.

exactly, and its giving new comers and young folks a false impression as to what R&B really is, yet they get away with it and even get into the hall of fame with it.
(not wanting to start a hall of fame issue here just making a point)
i dont think it will ever get turned back around either.
