What is that line about being judged by the company you keep? Well, Pinetop sure kept some impressive company, and he was without a doubt one of the great ones. Not to mention that he won a Grammy at age 97 and that he was still out there performing. Absolutely beautiful.

Long story but one of my lifetime favorites.
I pull up at a local lake to go fishing, I see this old Black man sitting alone fishing and I go to say howdy and see if anything is bitting, you can clearly see the man is fishing for peace and quiet more than a few fish to fry.
We chat about the same old stuff everyone does when they meet, he seems glad to have someone to talk to and so i hang out and fish with him.
He sees i'm wearing a BB king shirt or something like that and says to me " you like the blues ? " I tell him I LOVE the blues and that I play Guitar (mostly the blues).
He says" I play the blues too, you may have heard of some of the guys I played with"
So I asked him who it was, he says "muddy waters, Howlin Wolf".
I gotta tell you I nearly fell off my bucket when I realized who I was fishing with.
Several other trips to the lake and a few at the bait shop hanging out I was able to chat with Pinetop, I went to his concert sometime after his 90th Birthday and He ROCKED the house !!!!
I just heard the news that one of the greats has passed on.
So Long Pinetop !!!!Thanks !!!!

cool story, you got to talk with a giant. R.I.P. Mr. Perkins.

hi solid...look i'm new here and i was wondering how to import pictures?ur the only one i could find online

Hey Indiana Kid

Welcome to the Forum !

Did you know Pinetop when he lived here in Indiana ?

Funny how our little sister town of LaPorte IN has been the stomping grounds of some great Blues men, maybe its our backwoods living and yet only an hour from Chicago that brought them here ? Even SRV came through and did a show at our civic auditorium.

Our firefighters put on a great blues fest every year here too.
