If you like playing blues styles, or really dig the Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan Tones, then YES you will make the right choice with the Texas Specials. Also, if you like the tone heard in Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter", use these pickups with the switch in position 4 (neck+middle) with a touch of reverb ;)

I put a set in my Squier Affinity Strat a couple of years ago and it turned it into my best sounding guitar. I love the warmth they have, they're heavier in the mid-range and bass than most Strat pickups. I've used them for everything. I mostly play blues, but I also play in an alternative rock band and they sound great clean or distorted. Personally I like them a lot. :D

I'm a big fan of Texas Specials, they're OEM in my SRV Strat and I installed a set in my MIM. Very high in the mids and at full volume have a nice crunch. Roll the volume back to clean them up. A little brittle on the highs but I turn the amp bass up to compensate. Great for rock, blues... basically anything.

Might I suggest a Texas Special in the neck and a CS 69 in the middle? The 69's are super clean with scooped mids. Both are great pickups in their own right and I imagine the 4th position would sound very nice. With these two singles and a humbucker in the brisge I think you'd cover a very wide tonal range.

In my opinion, an excellent choice and very versatile, work well in all modes and cheaper to install then some of the higher priced pups out there, yet produce outstanding performance per cost. My SRV seems to be an all in one type of fender, I can do just about anything I want with it given the limited equipment I use, but as always, depends on what your looking to achieve. Great for blues on a tube amp.
