$3.93.9/10 here today, and we produce and refine -- go figure?

Open ANWR

For scale:

They only want permission to drill in the 1002 section.
We are already in Prudhoe Bay (50 miles away) with no negative impact, so why not? We wouldn't even have to drop wells in the refuge, we could side drill into it -- no-brainer.

They could drill up all the domestic oil we have and that wouldn't drop the price any. The other opec nations already said there is no shortage. It's the oil companies and brokers wanting to charge this price. Back in Dec. and Jan. they were saying they wanted to have $5.00 a Gallon by Memorial day this year. Well, it's almost Memorial Day, and it's pretty close to $5.00 a gallon. It has absolutely Nothing to do with the middle east and supply.

Wouldn't drop the price? Couldn't be more wrong. Just the threat of increased domestic drilling and refining would drop the price. Actually doing it, we'd control the price by taking a MAJOR buyer out of the international consumption pie. The key to more domestic production is to build more refineries to handle the load.

We have a huge refinery less than 100 miles from here yet we pay the highest gas prices in North America.

Watch this video. It's worth the time. Then you will see that oil prices are not controlled by availability, because it is a racket controlled by Wall Street and Oil Companies. They could start drilling in alaska tomorrow and you will still be paying the same for gas as you are now, You think that the Oil Companies have your best interests in mind??? That is a laugh and a half. They are into profits. In this video you will learn just WHY we haven't used any ANWR oil. Its because of the deals we made with the Saudis. This President and all the presidents since LBJ (and most likely before him, but that was before my time) have been Corporate Puppets, Legislating to corporate interests. Most of all Oil and Chemical Companies. Oh, and Big Pharma. The oil companies will squeeze us dry before they worry about what we pay. http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/124.html And control the price?? We already DO control the price. Watch the link.

BTW, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't care if they drilled for oil in the center of Phoenix AZ. I'm just saying that the owners of that oil will still charge what they want to, because I don't see anyone making their own oil, so we are slaves to the oil companies. Unless you buy a diesel and do like Willie Nelson does, Then ya might be going in the right direction. http://planetgreen.discovery.com/videos ... eling.html Peace! 8)

We need to have higher gas taxes... in Europe and elsewhere.

Here's why: Europeans already pay high taxes on gas, so they're used to it. The taxes they already pay distorts the market for oil -- they're essentially consuming less of it than they would without the tax. This distortion results in slightly cheaper gas for us here in the US.

If we triple the amount of taxation on gas in europe, their consumption of oil will drop further, allowing us to absorb current supply at relatively reasonable prices.

I'm not 100% joking on this -- on my last visit to the UK, I made sure to point out to the in-laws that we really do appreciate how much their government is taxing them, because it helps keep gas cheaper for us.

Someone has to drive tiny cars, and be miserly when it comes to gasoline consumption. It's not economically viable for me to trade in my fullsize 4x4 pickup with a V8 in on a compact car with an I-4. It simply makes more sense for the folks in europe to increase their conservation efforts since they have a comparative advantage in driving tiny cars with small motors and large scale mass transit systems.
