I have noticed that there are tons of people at my school who have actually started listening to some of the artists on Guitar Hero just because they played the game! I know a guy who had no idea who Stevie Ray was until Guitar Hero, and now he wants to play guitar!

it's a good finger work-out too if you play on some of the higher difficulties... the only thing i don't like is people who think they are guitar gods because they play that game and no guitar, but there aren't too many of those i have encountered

I am just happy it is exposing kids to good rock and roll. My 8 year old now loves Alice Cooper School's Out and Foghat and Scorpions. Plus I learned to like some of the new stuff like Muse.

heres what i noticed
its a game,and i have
a younger friend who
can play like theres no
tommorow on that game

then i get my accoustic out
and ask him to play me the
opening riff to any one of those
BUTTON chords on that game
and he cant.

conclusion,a fun game,but you
will never learn the guitar that way.

peace

It's a game. I have no interest in it.

thats the reason guitar and bass sales have gone up since the first one came out.

I know that it is not Guitar Hero, but I didn't want to open up another thread for a similar topic.

I just ended up playing Rock Band, and I have to say that the game is fun and addictive. The best part of the game is the drums. I'm convinced that if you can play on expert, you would be decent on a real drum set.

I do think that these games have increased interest in music for the younger crowd. Since my nephews have played the game, they constantly ask me about my guitars, and basses and want to learn how to play.

Yes, I do realize that it is just a video game, but I'm all for anything that increases interst in real music.

Guitar Hero in the long run will probably be like the Tony Hawk games, yeah you'll get the occasional moron who thinks that the game and the real thing are similar, but then you'll get kids whose interest was sparked by the game, and as they get older, they get into the real thing. But this all of course depends on whether or not the kid can remember that they even had Guitar Hero since people seem to have shorter attention spans these days....

haha i love that game, me and my friend, who doesn't play guitar, played some yesterday and he was like wow, you beat me. so then he wanted to see me really play and he was amazed when all i did was put some blues back track on and just jammed. now he also wants to play so i'm pretty happy i could help spread guitar instead of guitar hero.

heres how i see it..
its a fun game..
but dont expect to play actual guitar from it.
i know a couple of people who thought that being good at GH would make them good at actual guitar..
and they failed.
my dad has been playing guitar for like.. about 30 years now..
and he cant play the game for hell...
however..
he hates video games..
and i dont think he was trying..
so its hard to say..
i dont know.
i like the game..
i think itll do good for the youth to get exposed to awesome music..
and its fun.

GH lit that spark in me to learn how to play guitar, which I've always wanted to, and now that I have a job and extra money I can afford the Strat I've always wanted.

i'm not that great at the game, but it certainly got me going.

the last time that i was in guitar center, there was this guy buyin a guitar for his son cuz he was apparently really good at guitar hero. the guy told him that it wasnt the same, but the guy just said it was and bought it anyways. it was worth a good laugh. that was also when i got my jazz bass.
