Just succumbed to GAS today.
Couldn't resist the price on a Martin D12X1AE 12 string with a Fishman Sonitone @ $520.00 CDN. It's built in Mexico and the back and sides are high pressure laminate but I checked it out against a $1800.00 Taylor and a $1400.00 Larrivee (both of which were very nice guitars) and I didn't hear or feel a more than $1000.00 difference. Not to mention the fact that I didn't have between $1600.00 and $2000.00 after taxes to spend on a guitar. It lists for $819.00 US so I feel pretty good about it. Always wanted a 12 string. :D

Very pretty babies, how does the sound of the MIM Martins compare to MIA Martins though?

Good on you with the new Martin.

12-string flat tops are in a musical class all their own. Nice harem of guits, too. Enjoy!

Guitslinger, I didn't have an MIA Martin to A/B against the MIM but I couldn't afford the MIA anyway. As I mentioned, the sound was close enough to the Taylor and the Larrivee that I felt that the MIM was more than competitive considering the price difference. It sounds great and I'm a happy camper :D

Thanks JSJH. I do enjoy 'em all.

If the MIM Martin can hold its own against a Larivee and a Taylor it must be primo gear anyway but I was just wondering if it had the fullness and projection of an MIA Martin. She really is a beauty in the meantime.

Does it have the fullness and projection? No, not really, but it sounds amazingly good and its all I'll ever need. Same deal as when I bought the J Bass. Mind you, if I'd had the bucks, there'd be no question that I'd have gone for the Grand J12-40E. Sweet......but five grand.....not happenin'.
While I was nosin' around yesterday I played a gorgeous Gibson J200 Standard and (my personal favorite and I will have one someday) a Songwriter Deluxe Standard. Beautifully balanced tone and playabiliy that had me droolin' like one of Pavlov's dogs. Bar none, the absolute finest accoustic I've ever played. IMHO :)
