hello, I was looking at back plates on eBay with the original decal/sticker advertisement the one that says "Fender strings...." and was looking to remove it from that backplate and put it on my guitar becuase when I bought my guitar the former owner removed the stickers. My question is does anybody know if the decal is a peelable sticker? And Would I be able to remove it without ruining it?

Most of these stickers are pretty difficult to remove without doing damage to them. IMHO I wouldn't put stickers on a guitar as many have adhesives that can over time react with the finish and cause peeling or fading but mainly I think they detract from the appearance of a guitar.

I agree with GS - - very difficult to remove the stickers and keep them intact. I do know someone who claims that a mild mix of peroxide and vinegar does about the best job, but not perfect by any means.

Why not just put the replacement backplate that has the sticker on your guitar, instead of trying to peel off the sticker and transfer it to the stock backplate that's already on your guitar? The sticker isn't the original one that came on the guitar so the guitar won't be 100% all-original either way. Just store the stock backplate somewhere and you can put it back on if you ever want to. That'll also keep the stock backplate from developing a "ghost image" of the sticker where the exposed portions of the plastic develop a patina from wear (white backplates will also yellow a little as they age leaving a whiter area under the sticker).

The stickers aren't meant to be permanent. They're advertising and it's expected that owners will remove them so they don't make them super durable. The printing will wear off and the edges will fray and lift a bit from rubbing against your clothes. It's sort of like leaving the price tag on a piece of clothing, or leaving the EPA mileage label stuck to the window of a new car.

Why is it that the stickers some people "want" to keep on their stuff never stay on, but when you buy something with that "Made In China" sticker you need a Belt Sander or a Blowtorch to remove it????

use a hairdryer. heat up the sticker really good, it will soften up the glue. peel it off and there ya go.

Try WD 40. Spray a few drops into the can's cap and apply to the sticker with a cue tip. Wipe the plate with a paper towel and play on. The stuff is great for removing stickers and decals.
Cheers,
