Dave Murray is the greatest guitarest because he and Steve Harris(bass) are the only orginial members Dave uses the Fender Strat or Tele, he plays most of the solos and the other ones Adrian Smith uses Gibson Explorer or Firebird and the other guy whos name i can't quite rember uses Either a Jackson or Gibson but there double necked so thats cool, they formed in Britan In 78 or 79 sometime in the 70's on christmas day, there top album is number of the beast.

He is a decent guitar player, but not quite to my liking.

Actually I saw a recent episode of Live From Abbey Road featuring Iron Maiden, and Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Jannick Gers were all using Strats, and I think when I saw them on Ozzfest a few years back they were all using Strats as well...

I personally would buy a Dave Murray signature Strat or Artist series strat if/when they release one.

I've always enjoyed Iron Maiden; from first to last album.

Murray does his job, but I usually don't think about him when asked to list the "Greatest Guitarists."

I bet if he read this thread, he'd be proud to have a fan like the original poster.

This is your lucky day. I stumbled across a Fender Japan Historic Dave Murray model
(number HST-57DM <--- Google that to see and even order one from Japan)

There is a Fender Japan Iron Maiden model (seems to have a mirror pickguard and SSS), but this HST-57DM is modeled after Dave's main dual-humbucker guitar. It looks nice.

I can't find the info anywhere, but IIRC, they had a Dave Murray sig the same time they released the Steve Harris sig bass. It came with Hot Rails not the humbuckers, just like his new Stat(s). To the OP, the other 2 Maiden guitarists play Strats.

I saw these guys perform on the Sundance Channel not too long ago... they ALL played Fenders and they all played solos. When I saw them on tour back in the 80's, they all played Fenders then, also. I would not say that Dave is a great guitarist. But these guys can sure perform well together.

Here's the Iron Maiden Strat from 2001 (Fender Japan, of course):

Stratbut 12, The 3rd guitarist is Janick Gers and he plays nothing but Fender Strats.Dave Murray plays Strats only.He has never been seen with a Telecaster.Adrian Smith plays Jacksons and the occasional Gibson, but mostly is a Jackson player. Please do your research next time .

He plays Strats mostly, especially now. Go to YouTube, Maiden has lots of Live stuff on there, Smith has a Strat on most of the time.
