Hi BMW-KTM thanks for the kind words about the people from our beloved shores but be very careful with the term Newfie as a lot of people call it "the other N word"as it was originally used in a derogatory manner that originated from foreign soldiers stationed here during WW II.
Our overbearing and highly paternalistic government at the time dictated that Newfoundlanders working alongside Canadian(we were a British colony back then)English and American workers shouldn't paid as much as their foreign coworkers as they weren't used to that much money and wouldn't know how to manage it.Needless to say this fact brought much ridicule and amusement from their highly paid coworkers and they started to call their oppressed coworkers "Goofy Newfies".Hence the name Newfie stuck and it still gets the hackles of many Newfoundlanders raised.
I guess it's kinda like the other N word-we can use it among ourselves but can get kind of steamed when others usedit.Anyway please do come visit us our hospitality and the provinces beauty are well known world-wide and I'm always looking for someone to jam with.BTW the guy you were describing sounds like a person I know who fled to Alberta during that time frame because he owed the wrong kind of people money back here,by some strange coincidence his name wouldn't be Harry or his nickname "Salty"-just wondering.

Can't remember his name but that wasn't it. He's a vessel fitter I think but might be a welder or rigger. Can't remember exactly. I met him in a refinery. I never met a Newfoundlander who objected to the name Newfie, in fact all the ones I've met are proud to be Newfies.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Took me a couple of reads to get all that properly categorized, but it's an interesting contrast to the US.

What didn't take me long was to carefully explain to my good intentioned English mother-in-law that the term "Red Indians" is probably not something that she should use in the US.

The contrast to that is the advice I received from my grandma years ago. I was living in NJ at the time, in an area with the highest population of people from India in the US. I mentioned this to my grandma, and she told me to be careful because, "they get angry easily and will stick ya." I was quite puzzled, because I wasn't aware that knifings were common amongst the Indian populations in the US (even though Sikhs carry daggers). A lightbulb went on, and I explained to here that I was talking about people from India -- I doubt she ever actually met someone from India before, as they tended not to settle in the rural south.

sorry WC. could almost make it to 30 seconds with the vid, paged through some pretty uninspired posts, almost like drunk guitar players with out much energy left, not saying drunk is bad just saying drunk and tired is uninspiring, the subject at best mundane at worst unimaginative seemed like such a waste of potential, although I understand that every one is different, um, perhaps instead of the guitar case thing I could have said getting better at playing guitar might be helped by coming up with more guitar/music related post-idge or maybe not.

i see what your saying.
we spend so much time on here together that when you see/hear something odd, strange,
new, whatever, ya want to hear the opinions of your forumites on it, so ya post it up.
on other forums thats usually what the lounge is for, to relax and post up anything that may or may not be topic related, kind of a anything goes but with forum guide lines respected.
