Saw a lot of that stuff around the net, that the Japan disaster is karma for pearl harbour. If that were me, I'd be praying we (the UK) never experience karma for our inhuman acts. It always amazes me that people only remember the bits of their history that they find palatable.

With regard to Alexandra Wallace:I wonder if she could be any way related to that great font of racism-George Wallace-no doubt someone that bigoted had her mind poisoned from an early age.BTW I scrolled down the page of the link to her Co-Ed Mag pix and their was a link to pix of 104 Japanese beauties and any one of them could make her look like a bottle-bleach-blonde Rosie O'Donnell.Maybe her rant was spurred by jealousy.

rebel, my whole point was/is that maybe those asians might have been japaneese checking in on their country and loved ones. i mean thats what hit my mind watching this video. yeah theres a lot of that type of stuff here too but at some point you would think folks would put that mentality down and have some feeling about them.
i guess there really is no rest for the wicked.

I saw no outright racism there. I saw some observations in which race was one of the observations but that doesn't make it racist all by itself. There has to be intent to malign based soley on issue of race for it to be racism. Is the girl a racist? Maybe but she didn't say anything blatantly racist. She observed there were a lot of asians on campus and she also stated she had no problem with that. I observe that there are more blacks than native Americans making their living in the Rap recording industry. That's not racist, it's just an observation. You can't make it so that people are not allowed to even notice race. Race is part of what makes us individuals. It's a part of who we are and for some people it's a source of great pride and culture. Clearly noticing race is not a sin. Then she complained at length about why it peeves her when people talk out loud (use the cel phone) in the library and even then she stated it wasn't just asians doing it. Is the the dialogue bordering on racism? I'd say it comes close it but it doesn't cross any line to make it worth a post on a guitar forum.

It is the racist mindset that jumps to conclusions and points the finger. Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing you of racism but it does appear you may live in an area where race is a hot topic issue and that will skew your perceptions regardless of whether you are a racist or not. It's only when we stop racism on BOTH sides of the issue that it will end completely. That means trying to maintain a nuetral perspective despite being in the middle of a hot zone with strong willed opinions everywhere and it means not striking at every shadow. Striking at shadows only keeps the problem alive. Yes you should strike when there is a real issue but this stupid broad is just having a bytch and moan session and some asians she saw in the library got in the fray. Perhaps she has no class or tact but we have people like that all over and of all races and of all opinions on racism.

I agree with you on this 100%. I think most people missed the most disturbing part of that video. That girl is smart enough to attend UCLA. Goes to show ya what a degree from there is worth these days. Yes folks the U.S.A. education system at it's finest. Give those teachers in Wisconsin a raise. 8)

How did that ditz even get in to UCLA?

'Asians' (for lack of a better term) are there to balance her stupidity.

My old girlfriend was born in Siberia, Russia. Thus, she is infact Asian. Who do people envision when the word 'Asian' arises?

In California, you have the RIGHT to attend either a CSU or a UC if you meet certain GPA/SAT standards. Of course, you don't automatically get to attend the CSU or UC of your choice... which is why it's harder to get into UC Berkeley if you're Asian than it is the other schools (racial quotas masquerading as diversity). I was friends with a guy in high school who found it easier to get into Cambridge than into a similar tier American university because he was Chinese.

In answer to your second question, people are envisioning what used to be referred to as a "Mongoloid" when using the term Asian, as opposed to a "Caucasoid" which your girlfriend probably resembles the most. Not saying they're right, but that is ultimately at the root of it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongoloid
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasoid

What's really interesting is that most people in the US don't think of folks from India, Pakistan, and other middle eastern countries as being "Asian"... contrast this with the UK where the term "Asian" includes folks from these countries and the rest of the middle east. As a result, people will sometimes refer to high crime rates in the UK as being attributable to Asians, which sounds a bit odd to American ears.

And of course, let's not forget the Native Americans or American Indians (depending on what term you use). Here you have a group that was incorrectly indentified because people just assumed that they must be related to the folks in India because of their skin color. The odd thing is, that if you take into account the migration out of Asia into the Americas, the early Europeans at least got it right (accidentially) that they were dealing with people from Asia.

Quality post, gar. I was especially unaware of the alternate contrast for folks from the UK - but I must say I like theirs quite a lot more!

In Canada,Native North Americans aren't refered to as Indians but the native aboriginal peoples are refered to as First Nations and people that most all the world calls Eskimos are refered to as Inuit.BTW the Inuit refer to First Nations people as Innu and the native "Indian"population in Newfoundland&Labrador and Quebec refer to themselves as Innu but I'm not sure about the rest of native aboriginal Canadians.

And then there's another minority race in Canada of (mostly but not all) Irishmen living on an offshore rock whom are lovingly known as Newfies. 30 - 40 years ago these wonderful folk were scoffed at by the western provinces because of their happy demeanor, simple lifestyle, eagerness for drink and song and willingness to work hard at manual labor jobs while away from their homes for months at a time. Back then they knew intimately the effects of racism being second only to the natives out west. Happily that era is over and only a few ignorants are left. Me? I love Newfies. Love 'em. I've met literally thousands of them over the years in northern Alberta and out of those thousands and those years it wasn't until January of 2010 that I finally met one who was an arse. He'd moved permenantly to Alberta in 1979 and had clearly morphed into something altogether different from his countrymen. Someday I hope to vist the rock and kiss the cod and be Screeched In saying, "Indeed oy is a Newfie, me ole' son & lang may yer big jib draw."

Careful there, boys. The admins here are pretty easy going but I think you might be getting close to the limits of their tollerance.
