I saw no outright racism there. I saw some observations in which race was one of the observations but that doesn't make it racist all by itself. There has to be intent to malign based soley on issue of race for it to be racism. Is the girl a racist? Maybe but she didn't say anything blatantly racist. She observed there were a lot of asians on campus and she also stated she had no problem with that. I observe that there are more blacks than native Americans making their living in the Rap recording industry. That's not racist, it's just an observation. You can't make it so that people are not allowed to even notice race. Race is part of what makes us individuals. It's a part of who we are and for some people it's a source of great pride and culture. Clearly noticing race is not a sin. Then she complained at length about why it peeves her when people talk out loud (use the cel phone) in the library and even then she stated it wasn't just asians doing it. Is the the dialogue bordering on racism? I'd say it comes close it but it doesn't cross any line to make it worth a post on a guitar forum.

It is the racist mindset that jumps to conclusions and points the finger. Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing you of racism but it does appear you may live in an area where race is a hot topic issue and that will skew your perceptions regardless of whether you are a racist or not. It's only when we stop racism on BOTH sides of the issue that it will end completely. That means trying to maintain a nuetral perspective despite being in the middle of a hot zone with strong willed opinions everywhere and it means not striking at every shadow. Striking at shadows only keeps the problem alive. Yes you should strike when there is a real issue but this stupid broad is just having a bytch and moan session and some asians she saw in the library got in the fray. Perhaps she has no class or tact but we have people like that all over and of all races and of all opinions on racism.

They interviewed some Asian students on TV the other night regarding this (at UCLA no less). Their reaction was basically, "Meh". It didn't seem like it bothered them particularly much, nor like it impacted their lives. They weren't calling for a holy war, they weren't calling for an expulsion, they weren't trying to figure out who to sue, and they weren't planning to march in the streets. Good for them, they're focused on more important things.

Thinking about it logically, it's a situation of "Oh no! Somebody said something somewhere that someone is going to be be upset about!!!!111".

I would hope that everyone who's incredibly worked up about this has never made fun of poor people, using terms like "redneck" or "ghetto" in disparaging terms. I would also hope that they've never made fun of the English, Irish, Welsh, Scots, French, Germans, Italians, Poles, Russians, Gypsies, American Indians, Mexicans, etc, etc, etc.

Was it polite of her to say? Of course not. Would anybody have noticed if it wasn't on youtube? Of course not. Will people use this as a reason to re-evaluate their own behavior? Of. Course. Not.

For those who don't want to click the link it's is a photo of various facebook statuses from some ignorant Americans (disclaimer: not all Americans are ignorant, proof: this Forum) saying that the earthquake in Japan is a Karma for Pearl Harbor. And their biggest argument is "just google Pearl Harbor death toll". Well just for fun I google it and also googled for the death toll in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Here are my result:
Overall Pearl Harbor: 2350
Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of December 1945 death toll: around 150000 to 200000, in those numbers are not deaths by birth defects which continued for decades.
Of course one live lost in a war is one live to many in a perfect world. I'm not trying to devalue the human live with this post. I just saying that somebody needs to educate these people who posted these statuses.
And to our younger members who are still in school... when it comes to history class, please pay attention. My generation has already F-ed up because they forgot the lessons from previous generations that learned them from the great depression.

we dont know that these folks were making calls, they might have recieved them.
my point is she doesnt know why they were on the phone. could be because of whats going on across seas. before i would youtube and make an azz of myself and my school i would wait to see if the reason presents itself. of course their are folks in the library she could have reported them to right?

yeah these types run in packs. they usually arent strong enough to stand on their own.
its something that starts in highschool and grows from there. unfortunatly, this mentality
stays with this type on through adulthood and it causes them and everybody around them problems but they dont realize it even when its pointed out to them.
