Sell an amp, ship it with the big brown truck, BBT trashes the amp, BBT guys say not my fault we dropped an 85 pound amp off the truck.
BBT guys won't pay even though its insured.

Moral of this story DO NOT SHIP ON A BIG BROWN TRUCK !!!!!!

If you have had an experience like this, share it with the gang here so they can miss out on the heartache of dealing with these idiots.

P.S. I've shipped amps all over the world, 100's of amps and guitars, I know how to safely pack them.

BB...Sorry to hear you had a bad experience...I used to work in the postal service overseas when I was in my early days in the Air Force and it taught me how to really pack the crap out of everything before shipping.

Not saying you didn't...no stone throughing...I just saw what the Airlines did to our US Mail so I learned early...but if brown insured it, they should pay up...I would find a regional manager and contact him/her and let them know what is up, might be just the local guy not wanting to get his stuff in a wringer.

FWIW

i've heard way too many horror stories about UPS. I always ship with FedEx and have never had any issues in the 30+ times I have shipped high end guitars and amps with them.

UPS smashed up an amp of mine also and wouldn't pay either. I just don't use them anymore.

I sold a '64 Fender Super Reverb on eBay to a guy in California. Since he paid $2,408 for it, I wanted to make sure it arrived in one piece. Being a professional woodworker, I built a padded plywood case, even put a sturdy handle on the top along with This Side Up. When I got to BBT store (a 20-mile drive at the time) I was told that since the amp was in non-standard packaging (wood instead of cardboard), it was going to cost an additional $25 to ship!

I said you have to be kidding. They said nope, non-standard was non-standard, you should have wrapped the plywood with cardboard. I figured time and mileage was going to kill me anyway, so I ate the extra shipping. Chalk that one up to experience.

Another time I took a Fender G-DEC 30 to BBT to ship it to New York. I had repacked the amp in the original box, all sealed up, then put that box into the original Fender shipping carton, very thoroughly sealed up. When I wanted to insure it for $300 I was told that they would have to "inspect" the packaging to see that it would be good enough. I told them that the amp was in the original box in the original shipping carton, but they said open it up or no insure, so they undid all of my work only to tell me, yep, that's packed pretty dang good. Unbelievable.

That was enough of BBT for me.

Sorry to hear about your damaged parcel. I drive the BBT. If your package was insured and adequately packed, I think you need to push the issue. There is NO WAY that Big Brown shouldn't be reimbursing your loss. Was it crushed, punctured or what. I find it hard to believe it "Fell off the back of the truck", no disrespect to to you. The doors are supposed to be secured at all times or we can be fired immediately if a supervisor sees us. And believe me, we get followed by them. Good luck and keep fighting for reimbursement. It sounds like you deserve it.

One major difference I've noticed between UPS and FedEx is that FedEx seems to have taught their employees the definition of the word fragile. For UPS, they see that stamp as a challenge and see how many times they can throw the box with antique china in it before something breaks.
When my new amp got here (via UPS) it looked like it had seen some severe treatment based on the condition of the box. Good thing Jet City built a solid amp.

The story gets worse.
The idiot who bought it sent it back to ups with no packing material inside the box.

E-bay and pay-pal gave the guy a refund without ever contacting me, not one time.
now there is a huge negative balance in my pay-pal account.

NEVER AGAIN !!!!!

I refuse to pay back pay-pal !!! never to use e-bay again and no BBT's for me.

My selling days are over .

OUCH. It sounds like the buyer contributed to the problem by not packing it properly on the return. I watch items on ebay all the time but have yet to buy anything because of horror stories like this. My sympathies.

blues bondsman:

Don't give up! Keep going higher up the food chain until you reach someone who reimburses you. I once spent 11 month arguing with the Birmingham Alabama Guitar Center over $345. I was told no at every turn until I finally reached a guy who said yes. It actually ended up with me getting $500. Don't give up!!!

I was suprised to receive a very pleasant phone call from an agent with UPS asking me for photos of the damaged item.

When I got home there was an e-mail for me to respond to with the pictures and an apology for the damage.

Crazy !!! maybe they will take care of me after all, without having to resort to legal action.

E-bay and pay-pal on the other hand can jump off of a cliff, I am completely done with those idiots.

Its not over yet !
I do have high hopes.

After doing just a little research on a few guitar related shipping subjects I will say this, if you want it to arrive and survive Big Brown Truck is NOT the way to go.

Something to do with the warehouse system they use, your amp and guitar packages get slammed into each other at fairly considerable speed and force, so if something heavy is on the line with your package its gonna get smashed.

They need a new system for fragile packages.

I know I would pay a little more to know my item would get there and safely.

I recently bought 6 high end watches on an Internet auction site and they were sent Fed -Ex to say that they were overpackaged would be a huge understatement. Each watch came in a huge box that could've easily held all six and were bubble wrapped profusely on top of that. After seeing the horror stories of UPS and BBT I think I'll specify Fed-Ex or nothing from now on.
