you seem to know what your doing, you've got it all planned out. which is good, unlike me, my organisation is horrrible. but heres my advice; just go with the flow man, i mean do what you want to do, not what some $20 guitar book tells you 8)

Although cliche, the old saying is true that practice makes perfect.

Ahhh but that is not the most condusive way to progress, because what ultimately happens is that you end up only playing/ practising what you are already best at because that is generally what you enjoy the most and the result of this is that you find yourself plateauing. Theres nothing like a good plan and practice to progress.

I dunno about your "intermediate" felling man. If you can effectively apply your described skills you are way ahead of many famous recording (insert your own hero name here) acts.

What's your goal?

If you want to get into the music biz with skills you have, in addition you need "good" rugged looks so girls will buy your music, sh.. load of self-esteem and connections to push you through. 8)

If you want to release a hit in todays music world you need:
1. catchy tune
2. bar chords (I, ii, IV, V) you can arrange them in any asc/desc. pattern

If something else interests you, well how's your singing? You can also learn modes and apply jazz approach. Solos/melody is much more interesting when using more than 5-6 notes.

Agreed. Pentatonic scales can be so limiting.

I see you haven't mentioned modes in your list. That might be something to consider getting comfortable with, and it's nice in that once you've got the major scale down, you've already got it figured out.

Are you comfortable with thinking about scale degrees? When you run through a scale, say in the key of C, train yourself to have the note position in the back of your mind(eg. C= 1st, D = 2nd, E= 3rd, etc.) If you can mentally assign a degree to each note of the scale which you play, you'll know where to locate any arpeggio which can add some nice flavour to your improv.

Well, I've been playing for years and I still dont know the name of most chords I play. I just like the way they sound when the time is right.

It definitely seems like you're on the right track. Keep up the practice, and you will begin to notice improvement. A lot of times as a musician, you may not realize how much you have improved until you play with other musicians you haven't played with in a while; or listen to an old recording of your playing. Keep up what you already have going on, and it'll lead you in the direction you want to go. Most of all...keep having fun with it.
