I generally sit when I practice. I feel that practicing like this keeps things more consistent as far as where i position my guitar and hands. But when I really got a song down or just want to rock out I'll stand.

I always used to play sitting 100% of the time. But then I started gigging, and realized that playing standing up can be a bit different. So I just started playing standing up all the time so that when I gig, standing up is natural to me.

I only really sit now if I'm looking at a tab on the computer, or playing acoustic. When I gig with an acoustic, it's typically sitting down, so it doesn't bother me to play that way every day.

I learn a song Sitting then once I get it. I have to stand to get use to it. It is a big difference for me making the transition from sitting playing a song to standing playing a song.

At home, it could be sitting or lying down, but standing once in awhile.

I'll always prefer sitting. Hell, if a venue is right for it, I'll bring a stool to a gig.

As for being cool, I've always thought middle aged guys, like me, looked ridiculous trying to dance around the stage like an 18 year old.

Jeff (Skunk) Baxter almost always used a stool for his Doobie Bro's shows. It didn't stop him from looking cool. He'd just throw his head around and stomp his feet like he was having a good ol time.
