Just watching the total horror unfolding in Japan, the footage of the Tsunami is frighteningly quick, apparently Seattle is now on Tsunami alert, also the Nuclear plant is in a state of emergency as they can't cool it down as electricity is req'd to pump cooling water.
Truly Horrifying, prayers for all

Any expected effects from the quake/tsunami are expected to reach the west coast in about an hour. The news footage from Japan is truly heartbreaking. They say that 200+ bodies have washed ashore.

I just heard from a friend on the northern CA coast :

"Seattle and Washington coast is well protected, or uninhabited, so they are probably safe too..
I've heard some small islands in the Marshall group got completely swept over..
Hawaii had a few earthquakes at the same time near Oahu that did very little damage, and no tsunami has hit there yet.
so we're safe and well here Mike, I pray for the hundreds that weren't so lucky across Japan & the Pacific basin."

So far all that has happened in California is several vessels in the Santa Cruz harbor have come loose from their moorings. Otherwise though, all seems to be ok, and no injuries to report.

The latest I've seen is that it hit 8.9 on the Richter scale which is horrific considering that each digit increase means the devaststion increases 100 fold.My thoughts and prayers go out to these poor people who have literally had their lives ripped apart. BTW FB has a site dedicated to prayers for the people of Japan. One of my childhood buddies is married to a Japanese girl and they are in anguish waiting to hear something from her family as so many communications systems are knocked out.

When they said it was an 8.9 on the Richter scale I was dumbfounded! That is a severe earthquake. There are still hundreds in Japan missing.

The country with the best anti-eartquake protection in the world could not have prevented the devistation of a 8.9+ magnitude with 6+ magnatude aftershocks. Nature is a Beast.

Yes Sad, on the west coast we have a warning but nothing has happened.

May the higher powers bless those who are affected by the disaster.

Regards.

Avery sad day for our friends in Japan. Prayers and thoughts to all who are in pain and to those putting their lives in danger to help their fellow man.

Super Kid, thanks for the concern, but my family and I are fine. Okinawa is a good distance southwest of Toyko. We didn't even feel anything here and we usually get a little bit of a shake here when something of that size or even smaller hits in the mainland.

I do have many friends that have family and friends in mainland Japan that we are worried about, communication up there has been spotty do to the quake and tsunami. This is the biggest quake ever in Japan and 5th or 6th worldwide. Aftershocks were stronger than the quake that leveled Haiti. Most of the urban areas up there are very well constructed for these things but more of the rural areas aren't as prepared.
