Blacklight Royalty (First band, I was 13.)

Firepower (Second band, and like the first we played prog rock.)

Some prog/metal band which I forgot the name of. It probably had Beast, Monster or something like that in the name. I think it's the only metal band I've ever been in. Ironically, I wrote most of the music for it.

Tools of Pointless Construction (The other kids in the band liked Tool a lot.)

Flight of the Fearless (A little solo/side project I had going when I was like 15.)

Redemption (Youth Group band at church, it was a lot of fun. We stayed together for about a year and a half, it was the first band I've been in where we really got tight towards the end. It still kind of bums me out that everyone went to college.)

Rising Water (My first attempt at a blues/classic rock band. We were going to be Texas Storm, like Texas Flood, but apparently there already was a band called Texas Storm with Jimmie Vaughan so we kept the flood theme but changed the name. We only played one gig.)

Currently I'm backing Cari Quoyeser, an indie/alt rock singer songwriter. I'm also playing in my Dad's praise and worship band. I've been playing on and off with them since I started playing guitar. But the other guitarist quit so now I'm not just the substitute anymore.

I have only 1.Caribbean blue band, wich is the band my dad plays in I've played a few shows with them, ran some sound for them,Told them how to work thier own equipment  .that kind of stuff. But as for forming a band at this age, :? it's not so easy to find kids who play.Even when I do They think I'm weird.I'm also a nerd  . The worst part is there arn't any kids that like blues and classic rock wich is all I know :| .

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm totally into blues and classic rock, but it's so hard finding anyone else under 20 who is too. On top of that I'm probably fairly nerdy too. But that's all right, just hang in there and I'm sure that eventually you'll find yourself a band. :) Also, you'd be surprised by how many kids actually would like blues if they heard it. I was in a band with another guitar player my age who was really into hardcore, metal and shred style guitar, but I showed him some some licks from SRV and Jimmie Vaughan (capo stuff mainly) and he loved it. I would have never guessed. Apparently it got him hooked because later we were talking about Jimi Hendrix and he asked me if I'd ever heard Buddy Guy. Someone did his homework. ;)

That's not just people in your (and SuperKid's) age group. I've been sorely frustrated by people (especially booking managers/club owners) who say, "I don't like blues. I like your CD, but I don't like blues."
"You said you like my CD?"
"Yeah, it's great."
"Then you like blues."
"No, I don't like blues."
"But you like my CD, you like SRV, you like the Fabulous Thunderbirds, you like ZZ Top, you like the Rolling Stones. All that stuff is either blues or blues-rock."
"No, I don't like blues..."

I think they have the idea that "blues" is the same as dissonant avant-garde be-bop jazz that so many people dislike.

I've recently started a campaign to educate the young people in my congregation about blues...I've given them cds with the classic songs that everybody should know (Stormy Monday, Hoochie Coochie Man, Spoonful, Hideaway, etc.) plus a few obscure tracks by more modern artists. The ones that come back and ask for more are the ones who usually have a more rounded musical taste/education, and by the second disc, they're hooked.
(That make me sound like a drug dealer  :!: )

Anyway, I especially concentrate on the kids who are either (1) already taking music lessons or (2) have expressed the desire to do so. I've gotten a bunch of kids from the Marshall islands playing blues on their ukeleles or keyboards, and they don't even know it!

We gotta keep the blues alive; there's eventually going to be a resurgence like what happened in the mid 1960s (with the British blues players) and the early 1980s (with the Texas Blues Revolution)...I just hope it happens soon.

My drummer/producer has been in several bands at various times (he was/is in Wheels Off, Screamin' Armadillos, Cowboy Gypsies and UFJ with me).

But the two bands he was in that had cool names were:

Catahoula--(named after the hound)

Cat Foot Joe--(a solo recording project he named after his own dog, Joey)

...he obviously has an affinity for canines.
