Well here's an interesting one for you. The Beach Boys are coming to town in June for a relatively small outdoor show. Around 2700 tickets will go up for grabs this upcoming Monday. For a premium, up to 50 tickets will be offered having VIP access which includes better seating, and after the show, a meet-and-greet with the band!

Naturally, this has got the wheels in my head turning. Why not bring my strat along and have the Boys sign it? That ofcourse being if I'm one of the lucky ones who gets 1 of those 50 illustrious tickets. Another thing I'll have to look into is whether it's the original members who are touring.

And so I ask: If you had the chance to have your guitar autographed by a band you admire, would you do it? Or is it a travesty and falls right into the sticker category? What if it were on the back of the guitar?

I am interested to hear your opinions! :)

I might have one of mine autographed(cheap model & depending on artist) but never my number one guitar. JMHO!

I'm 80/20 against it.

I wouldn't have the guitar autographed. I would take a pick guard instead. That way you don't have to mark up your number 1 and you don't have to carry it the entire concert.

I actually won an EC strat from a promotion by a radio station and guitar store :D and when I went to pick it up it was autographed by the man himself on the body no less...so it quickly became my number one, but I wouldn't play it at gigs...so I say get another guitar autographed.

I just posted pics of my guitars on "Guitar and Amp Porn?" another post so you'll have to go there to see it, I am still trying to get my computer skills up to doing the pics post more than once...had to have my son walk me through it and he just left...it is hell getting old.

I would not have my #1 guitar signed, unless it was one of my "hero of heroes" (ZZ Top, Clapton, Stones, etc.).

I would get a pickguard signed or perhaps a secondary/less used/less valuable guitar signed.

No offense, but why the Beach Boys?
How many original members are there left in the group at this point? Mike Love and Al Jardine, right?
This question is partially fueled by my dislike of the group's music in general and specifically Mike Love's arrogance at their induction in to the RNRHOF...

I swapped out the pickguard on my #1 and so I've got the stock white one sitting around in a box. I think I'm probably gonna save it for signing if I ever get a chance to meet my favorite bands. But the guitar? No, I'd be too afraid of damaging the signatures when playing. A pickguard you can even lay a protective clear coat over after you've got all the sigs you want on it to make sure nothing gets rubbed off. My advice would be get a cheap white PG - it's easier to carry to the concert too.

I agree with the pickguard idea! I wouldn't have my number one guitar signed by anybody unless I was planning on retiring it. A guitar is a tool meant to be played, not simply displayed.

A pickguard or, at most, on the back of the headstock.

I have 2 of my guitars autographed by Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives-my '04 50th Ann. Strat and my '04 MIM Tele. The Strat was my No.1 guitar until I got my John Lennon '65 Casino and I had no qualms about getting an artist of Marty's stature to autograph it.

Where the Beach Boys are such a huge part of 60's music and the fathers of a whole genre of music I think that you should get your Strat autographed by them especially where they always played Fender Guitars.Be sure to get a pic of them signing it then if you ever came to sell it you would have conclusive proof that it was the real deal. The value of your guitar would grow considerably with their autographs too and these guys aren't getting any younger.

I would only do it if it were original members, which it is not.I always liked there music though.
They were the first concert I ever went to at 15 years old.I'm pretty sure they have always played Fender gear
