Add some drive and this sounds awesome! It doesn't matter which guitar I use, they all sound great! I don't know why I haven't used this set up more often. Does anyone else love this tone?

With a Les Paul or SG you can pretty well get Clapton's "woman"tone by doing that. Another Les Paul/SG setting that sounds cool is pickup switch in middle position with bridge pup volume full and tone on 0 and the neck pickup volume on 3 or 4 with the tone on 10 and you get a woman tone with a bit of treble bite to it.

It's good to idea to experiment with your tone. This trick is good if it works with your guitar and rig.

For me personally tone doesn't do much on 0, not a big fan of fluffy woman tone thing.

My JV strat is wired with one of the tone pots controlling the bridge pickup, so yes I have tried it. With the bridge tone at 0, BJr pre-amp volume at 12 (yes Nigel, this one goes to 12) and master volume at whatever the situation will allow, I get a tone reminiscent of the slow opening riff of Clapton's "I Can't Hold Out" from 461 Ocean Blvd. Good tone for slide playing, too.

I wasn't referring to a particular song but what is regarded as his warm "woman tone" that Clapton got on a lot of cuts from Disraeli Gears like Strange Brew,Sunhine of Your Love and Swlabr. That was the first album where his "woman tone"became universally known.

Almost everything on the Cream albums.

Anybody know why they call it the woman tone? Has it something to do with Eric Clapton's mojo?

I you had a chance to read his autobiography

http://www.amazon.ca/Clapton-Autobiogra ... 038551851X

Not much mojo (revealed) between him and women. It seem he fares much better with guitar woman tone.

Sorry for hi-j move (op)

they call it the "woman" tone because it moans and wails. Rory Gallagher had a great tone on the song Garbage Man on the BBC Sessions. he turned his guitar tone down to a lower setting and used a booster. give it a listen as well. seems he may have used the neck and mid position as well.

Clapton called it the woman tone, there's an old video of the Cream farewell concert where an interviewer asked him what it was and he demonstrates how he got it on the guitar.
The reporter also asks Ginger and Jack lots of questions about their technique...the whole film is more like a documentary than just a concert film...with some cheesey camera "tricks" during some of the songs.
