Police say officers have found former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr dead in a home near Salt Lake City's downtown area.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson says officers responded to the home Tuesday afternoon. He says details about the cause or circumstances of the 44-year-old's death were not immediately available.

I never was big on grunge, but I always liked "Man In The Box", "Rooster" and a couple of their other songs...they seemed to have that certain unidentifiable "somethin'" that made me listen.

Typical police statement when a celebrity dies.

Only the lucky few retire from the music business unscathed. It's a demanding life, and it takes a toll on people in one way or another all too frequently. Mentally, Physically, Emotionally, Etc. Etc..... :(

He's admittedly had drug problems, so that undoubtedly has something to do with it.

Thanks for that link, Way Cool, Jr...I for got how much I like Jerry Cantrell's guitar playing...plus, he plays a G&L (a man after my own heart; my first three electrics were G&Ls).

I was going to make a topic earlier, but I decided not to because I would likely botch it with poor wording....

Crazy to think that HALF of the band that recorded my favorite album of all time (Dirt) is now dead. And both of the same causes (assuming this was an OD)... somewhat eerie, since he was the last to see Layne alive.

R.I.P. Mike.

Bummer to hear.I saw him on that celebrity rehab show and he struggled with addiction.Drugs and alcohol are serious $@!&.I hope his death was not from an overdose.I am sober and have struggled myself.I know how hard it can be.....and at times it can be really hard.If it was easy everyone would do it.Sad loss to the music world.
God Bless Mike and family and friends
