Will there need to be any truss rod adjustments or intonation adjustments when changing your strings from 9's to 10's? This is on a tele with 6 saddles. I tried the search function, but I can NEVER find what I am looking for with the search function.

Hi Yoda, ive not had to tweak the trussrod myself but theres always a slim chance. Always worth checking intonation i reckon tho.

Your intonation is going to change on every string that is a different size. You can throw your intonation off by just raising the action and keeping the same set of strings (no change to 10's). Setting the intonation is very easy. You may want to try it yourself before taking it into a tech.

I doubt seriously that you will need a truss rod adjustment. I went from 9's to 10's and then to heavy bottom strings on two strats and didn't have to fool with the truss rod. Adjusting truss rods is easy too, but I don't reccommend it without some training.

Your nut is probably cut wide enough to accept the new strings. If you do have any issues it will probably be with the wound strings.

You may be all right. All you can do is change the strings and see what happens! I "usually" don't have to make a truss rod adjustment if going from 9's to 10's. The intonation may change too, but again, see what happens, it may not change enough to bother you! If it does change, a quick 1/8 to 1/4 turn of the truss rod should be PLENTY, and the intonation is easily adjusted :D There is info on this website, like the manual for your Telecaster that can be downloaded probably under the "support" tab somewhere!

I highly recommend doing a complete setup any time you change string gauges.
Personally I check my setup every time I even change strings. Even if I'm using the same gauge and brand of strings.

I use 10`s on my Tele and it didn`t need any adjusting and the strings were changed where I bought the guitar. But as mentioned above, do a set up on it to be sure.

+1 on this, I am doing the same since a couple a years ago I discovered some inconsistency with the very popular string brands.

I guess it depends on how much of a stickler you are. Like Chet I would do a complete setup on my own guitar if I were changing guages but I know guys who's guitars are all in various states of setup and they say they don't notice any difference from one guitar to the next. The other thing about me is that I don't consider doing a setup to be a chore. I like doing it. Everyone has their own idea of what is a perfect setup and everyone also has their own idea of allowable range for variation from perfect. If you're not sure about it then I'd suggest you just go ahead and try it and see if you can live with it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

setups are fun, and i'll bet if you did it you might find that your guitar needed a few tweaks before you changed the string gauge.
simple rule is, heavier gauge, more tension on the neck, truss rod will need to be tightned and the intonation will go out of whack.
9's to 10's... maybe not very much, but as i said earlier, do the setup anyway. you'll be very pleased at how much easier it plays, and it'll feel more like a part of you.

all the info's right at the link below... and i've used the same settings on my strat, my tele, gretsch, epiphone, squier, and even an old 1974 penco SG knock-off. works every time.
planning to do a peavy bass and my brother's ibanez in the near future.

it's a blast!
