+1 I never liked seeing Townsend smashing his axe. or Jimi either.

Blackmore was a smasher also. I like his playing but smashing makes me loose respect for such players.

Perhaps we need a I.D. the smasher thread.

i have to totally disagree.
Eddie almost single handly turned rock guitar as we know it to a whole other level
and thank God for it too. rock was getting very boring at the turn of the 80's.
Eddies contributions wont soon be forgotten.

Slash-He had some amazing riffs and solos, but he's not an all time great like Page or Hendrix.

John Mayer-I view him more as a musical genius than a virtuosic guitar player

Angus Young-All of AC/DC's riffs sound a lot like each other...
