When I came to this forum, I was actually kinda scared that people would jump on me for whatever reason. But then I found out that it wasn't like that at all, and the community here is really helpful! So, in my modest way of giving back, I'd just like to offer something back. (even though it is rather mundane and/or rather useless, unless you're me)

When I play guitar, and I get whisked away to do something else, I oft place my pick somewhere, and by the power of picksies, pick gnome, et all, it just disappears! So I thought of a way so that I wouldn't lose my picks all the time

1. The pick-under-the-pickguard-trick
Not that hard, it's just really tucking in your picks (light-hard) under the pickguard. It doesn't really work with picks thicker than 100mm, cause this way of keeping your pick slightly bends the pickguard between the screws.

2. Pick Necklace
This type of pick stashing is what I use all the time. It also looks pretty cool too. 8) Anyways, I'd just get a pick, make a hole in the upper-middle section of the pick and run a string or shoelace through it. Normally I just use a hole puncher for thinner picks, and a drill for thicker picks. What you do is totally up to you. You could wear it as a necklace, a bracelet, a hair-tie (I used to have long hair; I would have to tie it up), part of your keychain. When you need to use it, just wrap the slack of the string around your finger. :P (I went to a music store the other day, and the same thing, a pick with a string strung through, cost $14CDN, and it was just your average run-of-the-mill-pick too)

Another thing that would happen to me is, when I play gigs, I get too enthusiastic about my picking/strumming technique, and I would lose picks that way too. So, just to kill some of the slip without buying a more expensive pick is to find some sandpaper that's just lying around, cut a little piece off of it (about 0.5"x1"), cut it in half lengthwise, and tape/glue it on to a pick!

Anyways, that's just about all the ideas I have about picks, so enjoy, and thanks again.

You keep picks "weaved" between the strings on your headstock ...

I have a keychain pick-holder that gets the job done. And a small tupperware full of red tortex picks, and my new favorite med-lite dunlop gel picks. I just toss the picks in the tupperware when I'm done playing, and refill the keychain as needed.

p.s. Welcome to the forums. You'll find that there is a literal wealth of knowledge to be absorbed here.

That's Why I Buy Picks By The Bulk Pack. Say 75 At A Time. Usually I Take A Black Sharpie And Put A Mark On Them Too. They Are Easier To Find.

I use the "under the pick guard" method but I've had to take off my pickguard before to retrieve a pick before.

i use a emory board and rough up the upper part of the pick. great grip that way. the only other way i lose picks is if i set it down and walk away, the clean up grimlin
(my g.friend) puts it somewhere that it doesnt even belong. lol
cant tell you how many pics are in the drawer in the bathroom, or in the junk draw in the kitchen, or in my fishing tackle box's.

Welcome!

I must be an enigma as I'm pretty good with my picks. I use the same pick until it literally dry rots. The pick I'm using now has lasted me for 13 years so far, believe it or not. Granted, I do play with my fingers a lot too though.

I have five picks on me at all times...I just use my fingers & thumb

On the rare occasion I do use a pick, however, I generally don't have a problem keeping up with them...which is good because I use either the Dunlop Jazz III or Clayton teardrop 1.52mm, neither of which are readily available everywhere.

On v-picks.com, they sell a leather pick holder on a key ring. I keep 3 picks in it and if I stop playing for a little while I just put the pick back in it. It`s also handy cause if you go to a music store to try out a guitar you have your pick with you. The v picks themselves warm up as you use it and it sticks to your fingers and it helps prevent dropping your pick.

I just put it in my pocket when I'm done with it.
Somehow I got into the habit of never dropping them. I think it's because I only use small arm movements. From playing thrash no doubt.

I must be an enigma too! I've got a set of "claws", (national finger picks and thumb pick) that are hmmmmm.....around 40 years old!! Holy crap! What a geezer! I've always kept them in a plastic film can - you remember film don't you?

I tried and tried using them when I got my Strat, but the strings were just too close together. I finally gave up and just use my fingers. I do miss the brightness of the pick tho'.

Cheers
