I have never really been a fan of Nirvana or of fellow Lefty Kurt Cobain. Recently I watched Nirvana MTV Unplugged and I was impressed. That was some of the finest music I ever heard from Nirvana.
If you have not watched or listened to Nirvana MTV Unplugged I highly recommend it!

I wasn't a Nirvana fan either, but I did watch the unplugged performance and really liked it. I must have, I watched the whole thing.

Yes it's a great album, sad though. Was recorded only a few weeks before his death wasn't it?

I'm not sure of the time frame, but it was very close to it.

It is really the only Nirvana that I listen to. I love the performance of "All Apologies". You really find out a lot about a band when they play an acoustic set. They can't hide behind any effects really and are very vunerable.

It reminds me of the Foo Fighters. I was never a fan of the Foo Fighters until I saw their Skin and Bones DVD. I gained a whole new appreciateion for them. Similar to me feelings towards Nirvana. It's too bad that we didn't see that side of them until it was basically over. That could have been the turning point for some great music.

I agree that the Unplugged show was awesome (especially "The Man Who Sold The World") but Nirvana was some great music right off the bat. If you heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time on the radio and didn't go nuts, I don't know what to tell ya. Probably because I'm more interested in songwriting than naked guitar playing, I'm in my 50s and I'd rather hear "Heart Shaped Box" than any SRV record, no lie.

To filter that much anger and despair through those incredible hooks...

"Hey! Wait! I've got a new complaint..."

I mean... dang. That is some serious rock and roll.

A great show. A lot of people were sceptical about how good of a band they were because all they played was dirty Seattle grunge music. This really opened doors for other listeners to see and say, hey, these are actually great songs, these guys are good.

if kurt didn't kill himself Nirvana would be a really good band now. one of my friends said the death of Nirvana was the death of good singing. but getting back on topic, the Unplugged was an awsome performance.

All Nirvana is good. Especially Nevermind. There isn't a bad song on the whole album.

There are 2 different DVD's out with this on it. The first one is just the MTV Unplugged show with a couple of bonus songs. The second is called Nirvana Plugged/Unplugged and has another show on it too.
I'll probably get the Plugged/Unplugged version.

Finally an appreciation for true innovation. It seems it's all this SRV talk on here. Yes the man could shred some blues. With that said, Stevie did not show up with a Fender and completely kick a decade in the balls and take over. Kurt was one of the greatest songwriters in music; along with Brian Wilson (sorry for the disparity). Back when it first came on MTV, I watched the "Teen Spirit" video for the first time. Today, I can still feel the vibrato from the last note that rings out in the solo echoing into my soul. I will never hesitate to say that Nirvana's Unplugged performance is the epitome of the series. Nirvana took their grunge music and turned them into beautiful pop songs that anyone could enjoy. I challenge any musician alive today to leave that kind of impression on the world. I know it'll be hard to sway those highway 1 blues types but, we lost a great guitar hero.
