It's been ages since I heard it, but I remember the album "A Space in Time" as being outstanding.

Saw Tommy Bolin years ago when he was still with the Colorado band, Zephyr. I don't know if he lived long enough to be under-rated. Seemed like he was just achieving national recognition when he died.

Don't know the other two (3)

Three guitar players that I think don't get the recognition they deserve are:

Number one most under-rated--David Hidalgo of Los Lobos. This is one of the all-time great bands from one end of the stage to the other (pay attention to Conrad Lozano's bass sometime) and Hidalgo is a master on acoustic, electric, 12-string (and that's not all)... and a helluva singer too.

+1
Tommy Bolin who has already had mention on this thread as well

as for my third

Jeff Cook formerly of the country.rock band Alabama and now of the All-star Good time band this guy really knows his way around the neck of a guitar in my opinion

Terry Kath of Chicago - Just listen to the solo on 25 or 6 to 4. Even Hendrix himself said "You gotta check out this guy Terry Kath. His band is CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). He's the best guitar player in the universe."

Erik Brann of Iron Butterfly - Completely unkown player who played on the famous song In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. He was a violin player before Iron Butterfly, but he wanted to join up with them so he learned the guitar. He played that famous riff on In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida after he had played guitar for just three months.

Alvin Lee of Ten Years After - The lightning-fast guitarist who famously played at Woodstock. Everyone knows his amazing performance of I'm Going Home at Woodstock, but be sure to also listen to Stoned Woman and Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. Lee and his band are one of the most underrated of the 60's in my opinion.

Definitely agree about Terry Kath. What an amazing talent he was. It's a drag he is no longer with us.

The most amazing guy I've seen that many don't know is *Jack Pearson*,he has played with many, including a short stint with the Allman Brothers, but he has the best control and the bluest, jazziest, largest vocabulary of licks I've ever heard...and a downright great guy.

Three more:

Steve Wariner (yes, the early 80s country singer)
Roy Clark (I think his "aw, shucks" stint on Hee-Haw hurt his reputation as a multi-instrumentalist; the dude can play anything with strings)
Jimmie Vaughan (the combination of being SRV's older brother and having his biggest hit be "Tuff Enuff" made him a footnote in some people's minds; I personally would rather listen to Jimmie V--both with the Thunderbirds and solo--than Stevie...and I like Stevie a lot!)
