Hershel Yatovitz

Listen to some full C.I. albums. His phrasing and tone are stellar. Plays to the song and always tasty.

My idea of under-rated would be a name almost everyone knows but never get the guitar praise he/she deserves

To me it would be Richie Sambora
His solo stuff is amazing and I think he is a better singer than his front man, co-writes all the hits and has awesome guitar chops too!

Can't think of others right now

Chris knows how to find good players. Hershel replaced James Wilsey, another fine player who is the guitarist on "Wicked Game" and occasionally posts on here under an alias.

with different generations on here it would be hard for everybody to know the same names, not to mention the different countries we have as well on here

Good point, which is why I named Sambora. I think it would be really difficult to find someone on this board who hasn't heard of Bon Jovi before

Maybe, but I tend to think differing taste in music is a bigger factor than age or location.

Though decidedly not a Bon Jovi fan, a number of years ago friends and I happened across Sambora playing in a club in Vancouver. it was an eye opener. he's much better than people think.

Chris Britton of the Troggs-his percussive strumming and raw raunchy lead breaks were a huge influence on my playing.
Keith Hopwood & Derek Leckenby-Herman's Hermits-Even though they weren't taken seriously as a group just take a listen some time to the guitar work of Keith and Derek in songs like Mrs. Brown.... & Listen People, just tasty guitar work.
Kim Simmonds-Savoy Brown-Kim is one of the greatest unsung guitar giants of Blues Rock he is just flawless and precise with every note and bend there should be at least 5 or 6 Savoy Brown albums in every guitarist's collection starting with Raw Sienna which IMHO is their best album followed by Boogie Brothers.

Terry Kath of Chicago - Just listen to the solo on 25 or 6 to 4. Even Hendrix himself said "You gotta check out this guy Terry Kath. His band is CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). He's the best guitar player in the universe."

Erik Brann of Iron Butterfly - Completely unkown player who played on the famous song In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. He was a violin player before Iron Butterfly, but he wanted to join up with them so he learned the guitar. He played that famous riff on In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida after he had played guitar for just three months.

Alvin Lee of Ten Years After - The lightning-fast guitarist who famously played at Woodstock. Everyone knows his amazing performance of I'm Going Home at Woodstock, but be sure to also listen to Stoned Woman and Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. Lee and his band are one of the most underrated of the 60's in my opinion.
