SRV used a Tubescreamer for his boost by turning down the gain on the boost. If you are up for a easy build, the BYOC has a great boost pedal. I use the Overdrive 2 for boost.

Hadn't thought about building my own. I'm gonna look into that. I can always use another project.

Building your own is a cool idea, you can definitely call it your own. Before you go DIY try a digitech bad monkey (underrated, inexpensive and flexible). Id does color your tone though.

I'm not a fan of DigiTech at all. I've had bad luck with their gear. I think I'm going to go with the Seymour Duncan Pickup booster. I like the idea of DIY, but I can get the Pickup Booster for the same price as one of the kits.

You are going to be very pleased if you opt for the Xotic RC Booster. I've been using one on my pedal chain for a couple of years now. I use it as a boost or as a eq-preamp, where you can fine-tune your tone. When I first got mine I was amazed how it "took the blanket" off my amp. Everything sounded much clearer (old ears? ) I almost want two, one to put in front of my OD pedals (I use two or three) and one to put after.

Just a plain booster?

If you haven't got one yet, I'd support the MXR Micro Amp crowd. Cleanest I've ever heard. But if you like a little more mid to go with the clean boost, then I strongly recommend my current weapon of choice: Blackstar Valve Boost.. Just marvellous, and a huge range of boost level available. From a tickle to a boot down the street for your fave amp..

My friend tells me a lot about the Keeley Electronics Katana Clean Boost.

It's supposed to be suuuuper clean. Good stuff.

I'm kinda interested in the BBE Boosta Grande... haven't played it though.
