The new Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar HH looks great and all and I was really bent on buying it, but recently ive heard so grotesque comments about it, "Horrible tone for a jag" "Just because its shaped like a Jag doesnt mean it is" blah blah etc. I honestly dont have $800 to be spending on a guitar so to me this is a good deal for only around $300

Play it, like it, buy it.

or

Play it, hate it, don't buy it.

Your choice.

It is a Jaguar, don't worry about all the purists that are afraid of change. No it doesn't sound like an original Jag. But original jaguars had two single coils, not humbuckers. It sounded pretty nice in that video, and it looks cool to boot. I say go for it. Just because something is new, or upgraded doesn't make it bad. I think it's pretty nice for a Squier.

I think it sounds decent. Have you looked into the Blacktop Jaguar as well? For few more bucks, you might like it better. Honestly I like the Squier VM Jag. Does it sound like a vintage, no. Does it sound good, to me...yes. It is your money. Play several of them and anything else in your price range. As always, let your ears and fingers to the deciding for you.
