Decemberists and the Arcade Fire are two big Canadian bands that are popular both sides of the pond.

Two things- first being a Christian, it annoys me when people calling themselves "Christian" take to name calling, brow beating and attitudes unbecoming... you make it hard for the rest of us. I don't remember one scripture where Jesus called anyone a scumbag...
Secondly and yes this is a bit nit picky, but it's spelled "foreign" -when I first saw the topic I kept thinking Johnny Dangerously.... and if ya don't know what I'm talking about- go rent it --it's a hoot.

There is a Japanese guitarist that's well worth checking out: Char

He is a Fender man, being a long time player of Mustangs and Strats.
He is greatly influenced by Jeff Beck.

It's hard to find his CDs outside of Japan, so check out You Tube.

Doesn't it seem like more european and forgein bands are becoming more popular. Not like the beatles british invasion but something kinda like that. I'm not trying to dis any europeans on this website.

I think it is because of the internet! It is now possible for everyone to get their music out there without even being on a label! Whereas, before, we were mainly exposed to American label backed bands and european and forein bands didn't have a chance if they were not with a label and getting label or American backed exposure. Just a theory of mine  I think its cool 8) and want to hear every kind of music that is out there! I don't think it should be limited to Americans because (as Miami Mike says in his sig here) music IS the universal language, I have always believed that :D I am discovering so much new great music from all over the world and am really happy about it. Competition? Who cares! I love competition! We musicians all tend to borrow (ahem :P) from each other anyway, always have  Thats how trends get started. Oh well, thats just my 2 cents on it and 1 more post toward getting that little guitar pick to move me up in the ranks from hobbyist (been a hell of an expensive/long hobby) LOL!!
