Hi,

I know that exposing a guitar to excessive temperatures or humidity is bad, but is storing an electro-acoustic roughly 30-40cm from the end of a radiator going to damage it?

I tend to agree with Cherokee's info. (maybe because of my Cherokee ancestors  )

One 'rule-of-thumb' I use is - if it's uncomfortable for me and my body, it's bad for my music gear. So - is it too hot for you to stay at that distance from it? Personally - I wouldn't take the chance.

Always store a guitar as far away from a heat source as possible, especially acoustics which don't react well to rapid temperature changes as from being to close to a heat source.

In addition the side of the case next to the radiator is going to be much hotter than the side opposite. your guitar will tend to twist inside the case as the warm side will expand much more than the cold side.
That is the downfall of wood guitars, they must be allowed to acclimate slowly such as if the temp in the rom goes from 50F degrees to 80F degrees in a matter of minutes, the guitar will require at least a half hour to an hour for the interior of the case to match up to the outside of the cases temperature. This is why you often see cracked guitars or ones with checked finish.

That would be too close for any of my guitars, but I'm obsessive about them anyway.

The radiator is a convection radiator, i forgot to add. So therefore it warms up the whole room equally, gradually-I think this is no problem?

It's a heat source. At the end of the day, it gives off heat. That heat is always going to be stronger at source. Whether it's a convection heater or a open roaring fire.

My rule is a minimum of 8ft from any heat source. 16 inch is no distance at all.

Wise words.

In fact, given where I live and the extremes of temperature I keep all my guitars away from heat sources, even where the heating ducts run through the wall. And because of winter weather i don't hang any of my guitars on perimeter walls of my home, just interior walls.
