So.........The drummer is a no go. We mutually decided that we are, musically, polar-opposites. So no harm, no foul. Just back on the hunt. I am not surprised, nor am I discouraged by this new development. Playing with other musicians is not dissimilar to a relationship in that if you don't click right off, it probably won't happen no matter the amount of effort you put into it. I have the bass player locked down, as my brother is already making leaps and bounds playing the bass, as I figured with him being a guitarist for as long as I have. So, we're still looking for other musicians, and we're gonna go beat the streets and hit the music shops tomorrow and see what we can 'drum' up   .

So...drummer #2 for the weekend came by to jam...ugh. Let's see if we can get someone to stop by that hasn't been up smoking crank for a week to stop by tomorrow  . Quality drummers are scarce it seems.
Also, we decided to change the name of the band to Sidewinder. So that's the update for today :|

Finding a good "drummer" is the same chore in my neck of the woods. I am mediocre guitarist myself and aware of it and working constantly on improving skills and understand what it takes to get better. I don't judge anyone, but if I have to drive the constant rhythm for a drummer to be able to keep the beat it just drives me nuts. I don't care about fancy drummer gymnastics, just give me a steady 4/4 or waltz and that should do it (rant over, sorry that kind of a day).

Sidewinder, that sounds tasty, for some reason reminds me of short range air-air guided missile.

Hi Tim, hope you don't mind, but that last bit of advise is so golden! plus rods can lead you to other people that they have worked with in the past and almost always have inside information re, players and other people that can really get you cookin, there the greatest sorce for band drive, as most the time they drive the band.

fjbass and alexander57...
Thanks guys for the advice. I don't think we'll be needing roadies too much at first, but in the meantime my brother in law has already offered, unsolicited, to help us out getting to and from gigs. That should do for now. In the future, I have plenty of friends that I'm sure would be happy to earn a steady paycheck moving gear around. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Better find a drummer first...

Rebel...
He's a friendly snake...his scaly looks have given him a bad rep... fwiw...I did make the picture smaller.

Well...we went down to a jam night tonight. We met a cool drummer, and we're gonna jam tomorrow at the house. This guy seems a little more promising, so we'll see how it goes.
On another note...tonight was the first night I've been in a bar since I quit drinking; I had a coke.

My hat's off to both of you guys. I'm only at about the 2 year point, but I'm doing good. There's still days I wish I had a drink, but I'm better of without it for sure. Now if I could only kick the cigarettes I'd be good.

amen tim, amen. hey 2 yrs is a big jump to a lot of people bro. your gonna be fine, ya dont need it. it was fun while it lasted but ya gotta move on at some point and you did.
my brother and i got seperated back in 1992ish. i didnt hear from him for 11yrs.
we couldnt find eachother. i moved up here from FL and he and his g.friend moved out to mexico both on the same weekend. her father at that time had controling shares of a major record label and they were going out to open a branch in mexico, to get a jump on the up and coming latino music scene. well he lost my number as to where i was going, and i never had his as he wasnt sure of a contact number at this point. 11 plus yrs went by that we couldnt find eachother. i got a call one day. they had hired a detective to find me. it took him a while. when i want to disappear i can. it was my brother finally. for the next yr i never once talked to him longer than 30 minutes before he started sluring his words tim. he had become a major drunk. wow. about 4 or so yrs went by that we hardly talked due to him being drunk all the time. i could NEVER understand a word he said. so to me it was a hassle and a waste of time trying. it was crazy bro.
then one night i got a call from his wife/g.friend. (they had been together long enough that she might as well be his wife) she called to let me know that my brother might not make it through the night, at most 3 days. i freaked. his liver had all but shut down.
i hopped the first thing smokin bro. when i got there the house was slap full of people.
somebody had to point him out to me because i didnt recognize him tim. he had changed that much. hadnt seen him in like 15yrs. he was dying. we didnt talk about that ya know. we just talked about the good times. a few days passed and i had to get back to my world. when i left out that day i stopped at the door and looke dback just to say good bye without words. we both knew i might not make it home before the bad news call came. we just smiled at eachother. we made piece that day after all those yrs.
when i made it home there was no calls at that point. anyways, i made a few calls and sent a few emails out. long story short (PM me for details of that) my brother is alive and well today. he had a brush with death that very few get to come back from.
see, i use to be the bad one on booze and drugs. in the period of time we didnt talk i got cleaned up by the grace of God. he got worse. he couldnt understand how/why i got cleaned up and gave him a rash of shiot for his drinking. today hes against all of it.
he said he learned his lesson and wished he listened to folks long before it got so bad.
so tim, you way ahead of the game bro. stay ahead man. do your music and leave the booze alone.

For sure Rick. That's a terrible story, with a great ending for you and your bro. When I was in the Army, all I did was work, and drink...It was getting pretty bad and it took some stupid decisions and a little prison time for me to realize it was the worst thing in the world for me. I really messed up a good part of my life because of the alcohol, I'm glad that time is past me. And it was nice to go into a bar, and not even want a drink. That was a good boost for me.

So...Looks like we have a drummer now. Jeff Chavez is the name, and he'll be a great fit into the band. I'm looking forward to where this is going to go. My brother Jesse(bass) and I have been working tirelessly on the new songs, and though he's admittedly not much of a singer, he has some great ideas on vocal parts and I really like the direction things are heading stylistically. So now we need a keyboard player, and possibly another guitar player, and we can get out and start playing some gigs, should be fun.
