Hi Orville Owner I always thought that Marshall was a bit on the conservative side when givving their amp outputs.I had a Peavey Deuce and a Traynor MkIII that were about 130W each but a 100W Marshall could drown out both of them no problem.
When I use the low impedance input on my 2204(50W master volume) and my Guild S-100 I can get some of the silkiest jazz tones that you could imagine yet when I plug her into the high gain and turn down the master and crank the volume she can scream like a possessed banshee.A lot of people say that Marshalls don't have a nice clean sound but given the right amount of eq. they can be just as smooth as a Twin or Super Reverb. My 2204 and Artiste 2040 model confirm this.As a matter of fact Jim Marshall said that the Artiste was the only aamp that he regretted making as it was to clean even at volume. The previous owner of mine rectfied this by installing an extra circuit using the channel 2 inputs for pots and rewiring it like a 2204.MY nephew loves the amp so much that I let him have it on long term loan and he gets hounded to sell it,especially when people see the original '71 Greenbacks in it.

Not much Marshall love here huh? My smallbox Plexi clone and Vintage Modern cab (25W Greenbacks) nails some great rock tones. The head, handwired point to point with all Mercury iron inside is a great compliment to my 1965 Fender Bassman. Between the two, you're covered......... 8) Image Image
