Last night Marshall Amps sent me a loudness comparison between the new Yngvie Malmsteen and Slash Signature amps and the Slash amp came out on top at 126 db while the Yngvie came out at 125 db.The comparison was flawed however as they switched guitars for the compo and used a single coil Strat-like guitar in the Yngvie and a humbucker equipped Les Paul in the Slash model. You would think that someone like Marshall would use the same guitar in each amp to keep things more consistant. In all likelyhood the Yngvie is the louder amp given the Les Paul's higher output compared to a single coil guitar.Either way that's impressive volume levels for a cranked 100W amp considering that a 747 generates 130 db at takeoff at close range.BTW don't ask for a link as my computer skills are horrid and still back in the pre-Industrial Revolution stages.

Step 1: Build guitar amp that is louder than anyone will probably ever need.

Step 3: Profit

(of course, step 4 should be to invest in earplugs)

I don't think that the pickups would make that difference. All those volume differences are sorted out in the preamp section of the amps. Particularly when their on maximum. I think it's more to do with discrepancies between the output transformers.
The YJM sounded much better than the Slash too.

That video just reaffirmed in my mind why I hate Marshall amps.

The official specs on my old "nominal" 100 watt Marshall (2203) amp says that it actuallys puts out 170 watts at 10% distortion ... so there's a lot of power there.

Me too, I don't hate them overall, just in general. Not a huge fan of the haze, but the class 5 is one of the best sounding amps they've put out IMO.
