Bosnia? Ah. Um. Er...

How do Bosnians feel about the ol' USSR...? You might tactfully sound that one out before surprising him with it. You just never know how that might go down...

the dooms day prophets are always at it. i remember back in the '80s some religious nut thought he figured out when christ would return. sold a bunch of books about it. and at the appointed hour which was sometime around lunch time(eastern standard time) everyone in class says 3..2..1..well those books are on clearance. and the guys that started y2k are likely burried next to the shooters from the grassy knoll. there's always going to be something to keep you entertained. i don't buy into any of this crap.it's over when it's over. until then we keep on play'n and ticking off the neighbors. besides the only answer you find out when your dead is that it is better to be alive. keep smiling.

oh i know exactly how it would go down, thats why i said that lol.
i have two fellas that are bosnian i work with. they were on different side in the war.
its interesting to hear their stories. whats more interesting is to hear why they believe its the US's fault the war broke out in the first place.
their stories are very believable. i put it to you this way, i believe that they both believe in their hearts its our fault, and after you set down and listen to them for a while im not so sure they are wrong either. one of the guys was shot in the neck, the other was shot in the sholder so bad it about took his arm off. both were stitched up and thrown back out to play again. one guy was a cop before the war, the other made clothes.
these guys i respect highly ceri. one of the guys im pretty close to. hes not the hat guy. i would probably take a serious $@! kickin if i gave him the hat. hes a little guy too,
probably 5ft9 175, whilest im 6ft6 347.
you hear their story and you gain such respect for these two. the leap of faith they took to bring their families here for a new begining is amazing. to set back and know that at another time, in another place, these two would have killed eachother at the drop of a dime and no questions asked, w/o a care one about it either.

Bosnia, Hezegovina ( Yugoslavia ), Serbia...etc..etc... the whole story goes back centuries, long before Putin, Gorbachev, Krutschev, Lenin.
There is an amazing tale of history going back thru the Czar's in that part of the world.
A while back  when i used to ski race, I had met Jure Franko ( silver medal Giant Slalom 84 Olympics ) as he was in Stowe Vt. for the Pro race as well as doing clinics with some of us, I was and still am struck as to how approachable he was, there was no sign that even then 85-86 the turmoil in his homeland affected him. I'm sure it was deeply felt, for there was a bit of melancholy.
Not too long ago I watched a film with Richard Gere where he portrayed a journalist seeking out a character very reminiscent to Milosovich, The film itself was typical Hollywood, but I found the most depressingly poignant clip in the film is when the camera pans to the Olympic Rings at the entrance to Sarajevo. they were/are all damaged by artillery....
Even though I never made it to that level, for me those rings symbolize a sacred oath, that we most certainly can assemble from all corners of the globe and compete against one another in a peaceful fashion and perhaps have a pint afterwards to celebrate the effort Win or Lose..
