I have short but thick fingers and with all the guitars I've tried to play my fingers tend to dull strings when I finger chords. I can finger E and D chords just fine but G C and F are just horrible for me. Does anyone know of guitars with wider strings than standard that would still be easy to press the strings to the fretboard? Thanks

Yeah, it's called a bass.

Dude, I am sorry. I had to do it. I couldn't help myself.

I am by no means an expert, but I haven't heard on whether one type of guitar would be easier to play for those that are digitally needy. No poking fun, just stating that I don't know and can't answer your question.

I am curious to know too now.

There are some great players with small hands: Peter Frampton, Rick Derringer, David Gilmore, Bonnie Raitt, etc... A guitar with a narrow fretboard and frets closer togeather such as the Gibson Les Pauls are great for small handed player. But there are many other shorter scalled neck guitars out there. Best thing is to try them out to see which ones feel comfortable. Fender strats have a larger scale neck than most guitars. But they also have some narrow fingerboards too.

Try a nylon string acoustic....Classical guitar....This will have the wider string spacing. But the trade off is the big think neck aslo no good for your frankferters so to speak.

I have a very good technician friend who has hands like hams and fingers like bratwursts and his guitar of choice is '60 Gibson 335 that has the beefiest neck I've seen he also uses an Epiphone jazz box but I forget the model but it works quite well for him. When he wanted a Strat style guitar he had to build his own with a very wide profile Gibson style neck to accommodate his huge mitts.
BTW Fender used to build A,B and C profile necks with C being the widest,I don't know if they still do that or if it is still a special order option but you could look into that also. The best thing you could do is to go around to different guitar stores and try as many guitars as possible or go to different makers web sites and look up the specs.
The Epiphone SST Classic is available with a 2" wide neck,it's a nylon string classical electric. The widest of the Epi Archtops is the Elitist Country Deluxe at 1.75" and the John Lennon EJ-160-E has the widest neck of the acoustic electrics at 1.725 " and that is even comfortable for my small hands, just a great guitar-period.
Sorry but that's all tthe specs I have on hand but it's a start.A lot of the big bodied Gibsons have pretty wide necks but I don't know if any Fenders outside of the acoustics that have wider necks of course you could go 12 string for a wider neck but then again SRV had huge hands but adapted to the Strat neck quite comfortably,so it can be done.

Reventon there's no need to be sarcastic with the guy, after all it's his first post and he was looking for helpful advice and I'm sure that he could do without snarky put-downs. I gathered from what he said that it's guitar that he wants to play,he may not be the slightest bit interested in bass. You're fairly new to the forum too so maybe you should take some time to read up on forum etiquette.

Welcome to the Forum SCGolfer! This player has some huge fingers, a guitar similar to the one he is playing might help.

I've seen people with all kinds of fingers play guitar, and I've seen a 12 year girl with tiny skinny fingers play bass like nobody's business (you'd think she'd be better suited to guitar, but she wasn't). It may feel awkward at first, but I think you should be able to play on most any neck with no problem with enough practice. :) After a little while and a lot of guitars you'll finally be able to figure out what you're most comfortable with too.

This is Popa Chubby ...

There is no "wrong" set of fingers, it just takes practise. And practise. And more practise.

Cheers
