Might be time to shut this one down. :|
smedleybutler, you started out with an opinion and because someone didn't agree with you you personally attacked him and his nationality. This may not be the place for you. Your opinion is fine. Your attacks aren't. Take it somewhere else.

Guys, guys. Can I have a go at this Troglodyte.

How can you change so much on a guitar and than claim the original cheep version has a great sound???

Smelly said “”A claim completely without substantiation “” Has he forgotten what he claims for his little DIY kit…I bet he does a lot of things himself, as long as the batteries last that is.

We only have his word ( as evidenced by the verbal diarrhoea ) to determine the kind of “ man “
( a term I use in it’s loosest sense ) he is.

Smelly.. You are a presumptuous, self righteous, opinionated, Neanderthal. Who for reasons that will evade most decent people. Get some sort of feeble minded pleasure from your weak attempts to offend others…Try offending me, or preferable, crawl back under your rock…

Have a nice day.

Yea, Fender guitars sound soooo bad, I just had to buy 14 Stratocasters LOL......I am glad I bought every one of them too. Wouldn't trade them for the world. Fender makes some of the best guitars in the world not just at any price point, just PERIOD. Yes, you can find cheap crapper guitars that play and sound nice too, but can you consistently find them, $%#@ no! Quality, consistency, and a well known and well deserved reputation is what you get with a Fender ! ;) Worth every penny.

Nice! 14 Strats? You know they do make a couple other models? Just kidding. If you factor in inflation, Fender guitars are still a bargain. My 72 Strat was $280 new, that's somewhere over $1200 in today's dollars. I only have one Strat and have had it since 1972. It's the only one I really want or need. I have other guitars, but not two of the same manufacturer or model.

Sounds like a nice collection. Any Pics?

I see this thread has got out of hand but I'm just guessing having only read the last several post. So, to answer the topic question I'll simply say "YES!"

Had a chance to read the OP's remarks and reported him. If you members want to keep a civil forum I'd suggest doing the same every time you see such blather!!

I find it interesting how he praises Gibson for moderately priced, good quality instruments.

Yes, there are some good Gibsons out there, but overall, I find most of them are overpriced and some of their quality is suspect at best...and even Gibson players are baffled at the recent "innovations" such as the Fireturd X and the fact that YOU, TOO can have your own signature Les Paul (Nickelback)!

Is Fender going down quality-wise? I don't think so. I can pick up almost any Fender from almost any price point/origin of manufacture and it will generally be a good-to-great guitar. The ones that aren't are usually the ones that aren't my style/preference (pickup- or setup-wise). It certainly hasn't gotten to the same bad place of the last days of CBS.

I celebrate the cheap, off-brand guitar that plays (and sounds) good (or great). But I don't bag on my Strat or Tele because I happened to run across a gem amongst the horse poop.

The only thing the guy said that made sense was the praise he heaped upon G&L. I have long been a G&L fan/player...although, talking about slipping quality, for a few years in the past decade G&L did some stupid things with their necks and fretwork (both got a bit rough). It seems they have recently corrected the issues, but every company goes through a "down" spell...and if he's concerned about Fenders costing too much, has he actually priced an American-made G&L lately?

As far as bagging on a person's nationality--dude, get a life. Just as the US government doesn't reflect the beliefs, feelings and personality of every American citizen, the French government's policies don't necessarily reflect the populace of that country, either...it's your attitude that makes many nations hate Americans.

You need to go to another forum to act that way. May I suggest "ArrogantJackassesandMoronsWithCheapGuitarsTheyLove.com"?

The troll's been fed.

Just in an all around question here. How much money, your time, and efforts were used to make the $40.00 Strat. a playable ax? How much is your bench labor cost factored in? Parts etc.

I was just about to write something similar. I love hearing these "my cheap guitar sounds just as good" following a huge parts list swap, and hours of swapping parts, trial and error etc.....

The original post author is accomplishing what he set out to do.... annoy people. And to rag on a country for no reason just shows your intellect. Slamming someone for their reading comprehension after knocking an entire country is just asinine

You took a poorly made guitar that you were unhappy with, and replaced the parts with better ones. Seems to me you could have put that money to better use by buying a better guitar in the first place and you wouldn`t have had to start swapping out the parts. Whether you bought a Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, or any other better made guitar, it would have been better than that Chinese guitar you had to rebuild. Like the old saying goes, " You get what you pay for "

What were you hoping to accomplish in posting here? Sure you're entitled to your opinion, everyone is but there are ways to go about it. You could have had an engaging, lively debate about Fender products that I'm sure a lot of people would have enjoyed reading. But no you didn't, as soon as you received a little opposition you resorted to being a Philistine. In life you'll always receive opposition from your views, (and trashing Fender products on a Fender forum was always going to get a lot of it).

You could have been slightly less aggressive in your views, or you could have apologised and moved on to having an adult discussion, but no. You decided to be stubborn, narrow-minded and racist, which totally nullified your arguments. You made fun of him for being French. that was your defence. nothing to do with your original argument, that was the best retort you could come up with. Well done, you really done yourself justice their. He didn't even need to reply to that because you managed to make an $@! of yourself all on your own.

And by the way, France has one of the best military conflict records in Europe, winning 107 out of 163 major conflict since around 450 A.D, and during WW2 the French Resistance was, and still is, one of the most enduring symbols of Nazi opposition.

Plus the fact that it's an awesome country to go to and the people in my experience have been nothing but friendly when you try and at least talk a little bit of their language to them rather than talk very loud slow english and expect for them to speak it.

Anyway, at least we can sit happy knowing from OP's posts that he is a complete tool, and when it comes down to it, the joke in life is on him

guys... forget the $40 Chinese guitars... get this
I just got a piece of alder for $5 a while ago that beats any MIA Fender.

All I had to do was buy about $5000 worth of machinery, a neck, some pickups, pots, switches, a bridge, tuners, nut, jack, springs, strings, a pickguard, knobs. a neck plate and some screws and about 50 hours of bench work and I got myself a sweet $5 guitar that would beat any of the products offered by Fender

Why does a shoddily manufactured chinese strat copy sound better than a custom shop Strat?

Yes, there is some good stuff coming out of China; I have a Squier Thinline Tele that is proof of that. But I find Fender guitars overall to have excellent quality. The necks of MIM Fenders are far better than other makes at the same price point IMO. Even so, on Fender Custom Shop's worst day, I can't see some sub-$100 Chinese Strat copy beating out a CS. Sorry, I just have a hard time buying it ...
