interesting note: many people's favorite movie on here is The Shawshank Redemption but believe or not the movie was a box office flop! Did horrible in theaters and now the movie is regarded as one of the greatest movies ever. Just figured I'd share this little bit o' movie knowledge with everyone! But i do agree awesome movie, thank you Stephen King

Yes, that's true it was a box office flop, I remember reading that but I also remember it was one of the top selling dvd's. It seems for some weird reason everybody wanted to watch this one at home. :?

There are some great movies here and I can't dispute any of them. I will however offer some suggestions of my own:

I offer:

Bad Day at Black Rock - Spencer Tracy is AWESOME in this flick
The Magnificent Seven
Bullit
High Plains Drifter

Hi Claude: favorite movie of all time?

Easy. The Third Man.

Great cast, great locations, great shooting, great (great) score, some great lines ("cuckoo clocks" etc), a fabulous long closing shot. Most of all, a great script that continuously has you taking one side of the argument - only to change round to the other a moment later. And then back again. And so on.

And ultimately, an important message; which is that personal loyalties to real people you care about are more important than loyalties to abstract ideals, principles, identities and such. Pretty much a central theme of all Graham Greene's writing, really.

Been watching this film all my life. One time in a cinema in Vienna, that did nothing but show it round and round continuously. I came out that theatre and almost immediately found myself facing the very doorway that Orson Wells stands in with the kitten playing with his shoe laces. In the dirt on the window pane beside it someone had written with their finger: "Harry Lime lives!"

I rode on the ferris wheel too... 8)

Cheers - C
