Since I joined Facebook I've renewed friendships with people I haven't seen for decades even one old musician friend who had moved to Calif. after highschool,I still can't figure out how he found me but he did.You can post as little or as much as you want about yourself so there's no real danger in it if you're careful.

I don't think I am, but I'm not signed up, so what do I know. Something about it doesn't seem quite right to me. Aside from consuming your time, it seems like your life is an open book. My sister wanted to show me some videos and gave me her password. After the videos, I clicked on a few friends of hers (that I know) and linked to others...yadda yadda. I felt like I uncomfortable looking through her account, so I logged out. No one had security settings and you've got photos and conversations almost anyone can read. It seems a little creepy to have that much personal info out there. I know people will say its great because they've reconnected with family etc, but I don't see the need in it. To me its just another way for our society to waste time and become a hermit with no real world social skills.

Yoda, Facebook has it's good side too. For example, last week I got back in contact with an old school friend that I last saw before I moved in 1990. I have also had contact with family I thought I didnt have- that to me, is priceless.

YOU have full control of what information you want to share, you have control of who doesnt see particular info about you.

But think about it, like all things in life- it has it's ups and downs. But if you want to find your old friends from school, workplaces, clubs.. even your first love- or a long lost relative...Facebook is the place to go. For myself, I like to communicate with my family in Australia, my friends abroad and also believe it or not- Fender Forum buddies :) The internet has brought everyone in the world closer. No need for long-distance calls, long letter journeys... yadda yadda..

Facebook, MSN or email does it all

At the moment with the earthquakes that happened down in Christchurch city this week, Facebook is being used to rally info about lost people and where to find them. Organise water drop off points and used to get info from Christchurch to Auckland and around the country. It's also being used as a message board asking help for people that have nowhere to sleep- and you know what? It actually has proven to be a useful tool. Ask the people who sparked the uprising in Egypt. It comes down to the user at the end of the day. Perhaps you may want to ask a friend about it and perhaps ask if they can set up a simple accout for you. Add some close buddies and go from there.

If you look at your Facebook page, top right hand corner- there will be an 'Account' tab. Click on it and you will see 'Privacy Settings'. that is what you want. You can adjust those settings as you see fit, and this will control what you share, and who you choose to share it to.

Goodluck what ever you choose to do. :)

Your missing out on the slowly building technological reliance for social intelligence that will further my generations spiral into an idiocracy

FaceBook can be a great tool if you use it wisely. Like any other great tool it has the potential to cause harm if you use it unwisely. Don't click to "Like" anything that requires you to like it before you can see it. Don't post pics of anything you wouldn't publish on the front page of a national newspaper. Don't reveal personal contact info of any kind. Don't speak of anything you wish to be kept private. Use a web based email address to register with. Enjoy getting reacquainted with old classmates. Enjoy seeing how fat your old highschool flame has become. Try not to get involved with the dozens of time wasting games. Resist the urge to follow along with the many crusades and causes that ask you to copy and paste some phrase or sentence into your status line. Enjoy you and your old friends sharing obscure YouTube videos. But mostly, remember the Internet is public domain and there will always be people trying to take advantage of you if you let them. Be smart about it and FaceBook will be a positive thing. Act like a nimrod and it will come back to bite you in the keister.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Great advice BMW-KTM.
I used to hear people talking about it and thought I would have no use for it,but I signed on a couple of months ago and found people who I haven't heard from since graduation 40 years ago...it's been pretty cool, but like everything else on the internet I could see the down side to it.....and for the comments about "big brother"....do you actually think you are "under the radar" at all anymore? ....if so,I have some ocean front property for sale in Tennessee. :)

i've got no problem with the privacy issues. its just, the cyber world is practically destroying the real world.
on the plus side, i've talked to some of my long lost friends on there that i haven't seen since primary school.

Under The Radar No. The Guys I Edit Video For Read My Stuff In The Uk. I Just Dont Like The Fact That They Sell And Use Your Ideas. Myspace Does It Also. I Wouldn't Post A Thing I Didn't Want The Whole World To Read.

Posting sensitive and incriminating info, photo's on a public domain is akin to running up and down Main street in your birthday suit on the 4th of July, later trying to figure out how you ended up in a pickle.
As the old adage goes " Garbage In... Garbage Out "
I like Facebook it has it's usefulness for me, however as a repository for private info :?:

Being famous for 15 minutes for all the wrong reasons is it seems a funny game some people are playing, except you never can erase all traces of anything you post on the internet...

There's another old phrase that sometimes comes to mind.....
"Fool's names and fool's faces are always seen in public places".

My wife is on Facebook and enjoys it, she has encouraged me to join but I'm just not interested. I never was much for keeping in touch with old classmates and such. I do think Facebook can be used for good or bad purposes. It's like a motorcycle- use it recklessly and you will get hurt, use it with a little common sense and you will have fun.

Facebook has it's great uses. If it didn't then why is there more people on it than not? Including about 30 guys past and present from here at fender.com who I chat with more on facebook.

I have family scattered all over the world and it's great to see photos of younger cousins growing up in Dubai and New York regularly.

There is security you know. You choose the options.

The big one for me though is if you are a working musician it is priceless. The last 12 shows I played and every other one coming up has been booked and organised through facebook. The money the band and promotors save on flyers is amazing too.

I love facebook. It also put me in touch with a lot of great musicians and now I have regular online chts with guys like Nikki Sixx, Duff McKagan, Ginger Baker and Rick Richards. Ron Thal even advised me on the music course I am doing at the minute.

I am on Facebook and Twitter and like them both. Facebook kind of annoys me because there is a ton of crap that I don't care about but it is useful.
I like Twitter because I have way more control over who I read about, and its just less. I have one picture of myself up and then 140 characters.

My generation (is full of idiots but thats not the point) doesn't understand privacy. When I started dating this girl, it wasn't all over facebook. My boys knew and my family knew and that was it. But because it wasn't on facebook everyone kept asking and assumed I was embarrassed of her which isn't true at all.

Facebook does not equal life. It should be used as a tool.
