Hi everyone.

I am looking to get a low power tube amp for bedroom stuff.. but alot the the time the kiddie is asleep and I need headphones.

I was tempted by the blues jr iii but the lack of headphone option puts the nix on it.

Anyone know of a small comparable amp with a headphone out jack?

TIA

:D

The Vox Pathfinder 15 R has a headphone jack and is 15 W,the only downfall is that it's solid state but is more tubelike in tone than a lot of solid state amps. Some of the smaller Vox and Marshall modelling amps also have headphone jacks and although they too are solid state they are very tubelike in tone.Of course Vox and Marshall make the Valvetronix and Valvestate respectively that are hybrids but are almost indistinguishable from tube amps as they have tube driven preamps and a lot of these have headphone jacks.

There is a Marshall Class 5 which is ok but never tried it with the headphones. I think there is Vox (i am not sure model id) that you can try. I had a Roland solid state in the past and it was garbage with headphones. I am not sure how tube amps respond to small wattage mini speakers in the headphones.

I live in the house and nowdays for "quiet" play I use 5w fender champ 600 reissue, which with a some EQ adjustment (external via pedal) sounds way fine and does not disturb anyone at midnight at 5-6 on the amp volume and 7-10 on the guitar. Probably 1/2w is ideal for super quiet play at home.

Another option for quieter play is to look at these
http://www.egnateramps.com/Products/Reb ... 0Head.html (1-20w variable wattage)

Or this
http://www.thdelectronics.com/product_p ... plate.html (added to any amp with no master volume)

If absolute silence is required go for the headphones, otherwise I would suggest you stay away from them.

Traynor YCV20WR has a headphone jack and a speaker kill swith (with internal dummy load). It's a 15 watt all tube EL84 1x12 combo.

+1 on Guitslingers VOX 15R.

But before I go any further on that amp, you need to recognize that no amp is going to sound the same through headphones as it does through the speaker. Just so you know.

I bought that 15R amp for a kid that wanted to start playing...but I took it for a test drive.

Its a great little amp for the money. I bought one off Musicians Friend for $90. It was a return, but in perfect shape. They list for $118 new. The amp has a real spring reverb tank (its puny and not great reverb but its there). Its got fully adjustable vibrato. Its got separate gain and volume dials, plus an over-drive button to really crunch it up. Its got the headphone output, but its also got a line-out.

Here's the thing....That amps tone changes as it heats up, like a tube amp. Guitslinger is right. Its behaves like a tube amp, getting more warm and narly as you use it.

Its not a tube amp and its just a 15w practice amp. You arent going to gig with it. But in basement, or on the 5-minute notice, run-out the door jam session at a buddies house? You arent going wrong with a $89 15R.
