Mustang Sally is the first one that comes to mind. Wilson Pickett got popular thanks to Buddy Guy's tune.

Krokus aren't from Canada. They're from Switzerland.

Led Zeppelin were notorius "borrowers" of others' music. The opening riff to "Stairway to Heaven" was stolen almost note-for-note from a band that had opened for them a couple times.

A lot of people think of "Black Magic Woman" as a Santana song and think of "Green Manalishi" as a Judas Priest song.

" When the Levee Breaks " is an old blues tune, Zep's version is a bit changed but most of the lyrics are original.

I actually prefer to listen to a band's cover version of someone else's material, when the band interjects it's own identity into the song then it becomes fresh otherwise it's just rehash. If you are going to play it note for note, why bother being a musician at all.

Aerosmith's cover of the " Yardbyrd's " Train Kep-A-Rollin "

Clapton's " Hoochie Coochie Man" by Willie Dixon

The Stones " Champagne and Reefer " by Muddy Waters.

Anne Sophie Mutter's " The Four Seasons " by Vivaldi

This was a huge hit for Aerosmith way back in the day, getting massive radio time. It ended up causing a rift between Jeff Beck and Aerosmith as Jeff never felt acknowledged for his guitar work that influenced them to cover it. The funny thing is that the Yardbirds did not write the tune; they covered it too.

(pretty sure about the facts above, but I accept corrections)
