Well, if the amp gods are with me I may pull the trigger tomorrow on a new Allen Amplification "Sweet Spot" 1 x 10. I have thought, and thought, and thought, about this, trying many amps and talking to others and reviewing, reviewing, and reviewing....and of course reading and listening to my friends on the Forum. I'll let you all know after I sleep on it..........

Here are the specifications:

Output Power
18 watts (6V6 power tubes) or 25 watts (6L6 power tubes).

Tube Compliment
(4) 12AX7s, (2) 6V6 or 6L6 and (1) GZ34.

Class
AB push-pull with adjustable fixed bias.

Equalization
Bass, Treble and Middle controls plus BRIGHT switch.

Reverb
All-tube driven 3-spring medium-delay Accutronics tank in a heavy vinyl bag with shielded cables.

Chassis
18 gauge non-magnetic stainless steel with spot welded corners.

Circuitry
Hand-wired point-to-point with tinned solid-core PVC wiring, G-10 glass epoxy circuit board with brass eyelets. Carbon film resistors, Mallory M150 and CDM silver mica tone capacitors, Switchcraft jacks, Carling switches, and U.S. made molded type sockets.

Transformers
Cool and quiet running Allen TP25 160ma power transformer, TO30D upgrade paper bobbin interleaved winding output transformer, TR reverb transformer and TC choke are all U.S. made. See the TRANSFORMERS page for details

Topology
Design is loosely based on the Fender Princeton Reverb™ but with many enhancements such as a standby switch, middle control, bright switch, choke filtered power supply, filter capacitor bank, fixed bias phase inverter, deeper vibrato, adjustable power tube bias and bias measurement jacks.

Cabinet
Finger-jointed pine with black Tolex covering and black/white/silver sparkle grill cloth. Tolex covered rear screw-on panels, rubber cushioned chrome glides (feet), black rubber (steel reinforced) carrying handle with chrome caps and screws and bottom chrome corners.

Speaker
Eminence Copperhead 10" in the 1x10 combo. Eminence Red, White and Blues 12" in the 1x12. Eminence Big Ben 15" speaker in the 1x15.

Special Features
Bright switch and vibrato. Rear bias measurement jacks with adjustment pot, combination middle/raw control, extension speaker jack, choke-filtered power supply, 5 capacitor filtering bank with stainless-steel cover, fixed bias phase inverter (Paul C mod) and insulated input jacks for lower hum.

It's a sweet spot all right. Designer of that amp has all the mods applied that should be part of modern Fender amps.

How much is the 1x12 combo if you don't mind asking?

beaubs,
Congrats! Allen Amps makes some great kits. They've always been like the Rolls Royce of kits. High quality stuff, great support and fantastic instructions.
Good Luck

Nice, I am still getting my finances in order to buy the Chihuaua model with the reverb. Allen amps are the only tube amp I will consider now, at least not a mass produced tube amp. They are all hand wired point to point and made with U.S. Transformers and parts. The price is reasonable too. The Chihuaua is about the same price as the '57 Champ RI, And it has a lot more options on it. Let us know how the Sweet Spot works out. 8)

Let me know how the Chihuaua sounds when you get it. Yes, I have read and heard nothing but rave reviews on David Allens amps. I have had unsolicited conversations with a few owners and they really were big fans of the amp quality and sound. I am very excited to put my new amp to the test......now to improve my skills to the level of the amp :?

I will, But I'm sure you will get yours first, I won't be able to buy until the end of summer at least. I have to stay focused and not GAS for anything else in the meantime. Keep My Eyes On The Prize 8)

I hear you.....I was very close to buying a Princeton Reverb RI and a Deluxe Reverb RI (and a Supersonic 22) a few times but held off. It is tough when there are so many choices.
