Finally got a chance to watch this
I thought Prince was awesome
I have never been a huge fan of his, but this just made me like him a bit more. Maybe I have to give his live stuff a chance

I thought, as it was said early in this thread, that he led the band and commanded the stage

Would have loved to have seen that live!!!
Awesome..... now on to the 5th viewing!!!

Princes playing was great, but personally I could do without the theatrics and running around, but Prince did make the song his own there and isn't that what playing someone elses music is about?

But on a lighter note do you think Prince does his own Laundry? If he ain't even talking to his guitar tech? Bet not, but we know God does :!:

Oh and one small correction - Sunshine was NOT written for Hendrix, Jack Bruce explained where it came from...him and Pete Brown being up all night trying to write a song and not getting anywhere when he looked out the window..."It's getting near dawn, when lights close it tired eyes"... Get the facts correct...

Ok I will climb down of my soap box now

man this is so boring, over and over, is Prince Hendrix? is he a performer? well in the early 80's he and his band of misfits blasted every body off the stage that is why he got famous, is he a good guitarist? you better bet, can he dance around the stage? yeah he can, can he sing? well about as good as Jimi could, did the young people of the 80s get to see a young, exuberant, black guitarist/entertainer just like the young people of the 60s? pretty darn close IMHO YMMV 8)

I find on "youtube" that there is a Clapton version of this event called: "Concert for George" "While my guitar gently weeps" I could not get the link to post, but its easy to find.

It to is another of those vastly overdone cacaophonus public affairs with what seems to be 50 different players. My reactions to it are identical to the previous mess. However, the Clapton solo is more respectful of the original composition.

I don't know why rock musicians feel the need to do these grandiose versions, departing from their original bread and butter formats. It would be better if each of them would choose a song and do it individually, it would make for nice long concert and all the headling names would get their moment in the sun.

Of course Clapton played it "right"--he was recreating his own solo...it's all in the ear of the beholder.

But I "heard" Hendrix wrote that solo for Clapton! :D
Now it's on the interweb, it must be true.

I also read that in 1972 all of Congress was replaced by doppelgangers from Mars in order to take over America, but decided they liked toying with the taxpayers more than they liked destroying earth so they decided to stay as congressmen and senators and continue to screw with our heads. they were going to do the same with Parliament in the UK but the little white wigs were too itchy for their Martian heads, so they decided to just stick with the US...it was on the web, too!

I believe it about as much as I do Hendrix "writing a solo for Clapton." Clapton was intrigued and influenced by Hendrix's unique, free-spirited perspective and approach to playing guitar (just like everybody in England at the time); that's where any rumor about Clapton's Hendrix-esque solo on WMGGW came from.
