How can I find settings (or presets) for my Mustang I amp for a song like the Beatles "It's Only Love" with it's haunting reverb twang in the chorus?

I think you must be referring to the very fast vibrato when they go from A Min. to C . I've been trying to emulate that part of the song for years and this is where it gets complicated.I believe it involves both John and George on the same guitar as they did on I Need You and Baby's In Black where George strummed and John operated the master volume of the Gretsch Tennesean.George told of them using this method in an old interview stating that he could never get the hang of volume pedals and that's how they used to handle it.
Either John or George strummed and picked the lead while the other rapidly but gently worked the vibrato arm.The effect is definitely vibrato as there is no volume modulation but there is definite pitch modulation.I have tried it by strumming and using the vibrato at the same time but it's impossible and the vibrato definitely isn't amp vibrato and has to be mechanical.I know if you got someone else to operate your virbrato arm while you strummed you'd get that effect.

It'd be good if there was some device to move your vibrato arm for you.

I disagree! Not mechanical vibrato. It's too precise to be the whammy bar and it wouldn't be practical. It's been well documented the guitar was fed through a rotating Leslie speaker. The vibrato effect on the song sounds nothing like wanking on a Bigsby.

"It's Only Love" features the very first Beatles guitar solo played through the rotating "Leslie" speaker of the Hammond B-3 organ, which, along with the group's recently purchased tone pedal, gives the lead its shimmering effect."

See here: http://oldies.about.com/od/thebeatlesso ... lylove.htm
And here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_Only_Love

John kneeling in front of George working the volume knob is one thing (e.g. 'Baby's In Black'), but have you ever tried playing while someone else fiddled with your whammy bar? Not practical.

I just looked at the manual for the Mustang I amp http://support.fender.com/manuals/guita ... nglish.pdf and see there is a vibrato effect already loaded (C2 Vibratone Fast). I suggest using it. Or get a vibrato or Leslie simulator pedal or just turn up the rate on a chorus pedal. Good luck, that's a great song. Love that little riff.

Thanks for posting the info Metropolis,I knew it wasn't amp vibrato and to tell the truth I tried the riff on my Leslie but couldn't get it to sound the same but then again the cab with the B-3 has the rotating horns that spin faster than my Model 16 giving it a more warbling effect as the one in It's Only Love.I can get close to the effect however with the Bigsby on the Tennessean by wavering it rapidly and gently and with pracice 2 can do it with one holding the guitar strumming and chording and the other reaching around from behind and operating the vibrato.
A buddy and I used to gig together years ago and did a similar thing where he held the guitar and strummed and I reached around from behind and played lead.

Thanks everyone and Yes that was the part I was referring to the C to Am part. I called it the chorus but I guess it's more of a break. I am not as knowledgeable about guitar as all of u so I appreciate the info. I know about whammy bars etc but was always told that they throw ur guitar out of tune very quickly and I HATE tuning lol. I can get fairly close with some of the reverb settings and that's good enough for a duffer like me.
