I am going to build a pedal board and I am curious about the order I "should" put my pedals in. I know this can be a personal preference, but I would like to know a few basics to avoid unwanted noise or get the most out of the effects I am using. Here are the effects I have in the order I thought I would place them.

1. Morley Pro Series Volume
2. Dunlop JH-1 Wah Wah
3. DOD Classic Fuzz FX 52
4. Danelectro Cool Cat Distortion
5. Danelectro Tuna Melt Tremelo
6. Danelectro Dan Echo

I have heard you can get Hendrix like tones if you place the fuzz before the wah.

In the future I may purchase a compressor, an eq and an overdrive. I am not really sure if I need the compressor or the eq.
I plan on powering it with a 1 spot power supply. Any thoughts would be great.
FWIW I play classic rock, blues, funk and reggae/ska.

the standard it to put the drives first, and depending on what type of wah sound you want either put the wah infront or behind the drives, to get a more distinct wah sound put the wah after the drives...

after the drives put any modular efx like phasers... and than lastly any delays, reverbs...

so the way id set up your board would be:

1-fuzz
2-cool cat dist
3-wah
4-tremello
5-echo

and depending on what ur volume pedal does run it first or last, just give it a try, some volume pedals can be big tone suckers running as the last pedal to try it as the first pedal...

The order I put my pedals is 1. Octave fuzz 2. Fuzz 3.Overdrive 4.Wah 5.Volume pedal 6.Vibrato 7.Tremolo 8.Chorus 9.Phase Shifter 10.Flanger 11.Rack mount Digital Delay. I then go direct into a Marshall 4210 send the dry signal to a Marshall 2204 and the echo/delayed signal through a '69 Fender Bassman with a CBS era Leslie model 16 cabinet as that really throws the delayed signal around.
I always put my fuzz, boost overdrives etc. before the wah,I've found that putting the wah first muddies the bark and growl effect of the wah.

Most of the noise will be comming from your wah. If you place the fuzz before the wah, you will get more noise. On solution is to have a bypass or true bypass of the wah and or it's buffer to reduce the noise when using the wah and fuzz togeather and or with the distortion. Another option is to get a noise reduction filter. But, noise recuction filters do affect tone.

IMO.. Most of your noise is gonna come from your power source, I used a godlyke for quite a while, same daisy chain deal as a onespot, very noisy pedaltrain. Then I purchased a dc brick and my pedals are so quiet that sometimes I need to check for the light on the brick to make sure it's on. YMMV

Well, I picked up a couple more pedals to add to the board. I picked up a Danelctro Fab overdrive and a Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ for $25 at a gear garage sale (yes I like cheap pedals). How do you think I should work these into the equation?
Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I rarely, if ever, go by conventional wisdom as to "where" my pedals should go. My pedal order is thus:

• Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
• Ibanez TS-9 (re-issue) Tube Screamer (overdrive)
• Boss RT-20 Rotary Ensemble (rotary speaker simulator)
• Dunlop MWA Crybaby Wah (modified GCB95)
• MXR M-101 Phase 90 (phase shifter) (late 70s block logo, no LED)
• Dunlop JH-2S Jimi Hendrix System Classic Fuzz (now discontinued)
• MXR M-66 Classic Overdrive (limited run Guitar Center exclusive)(modified)
• MXR M-133 Micro Amp (gain/volume boost)
• ISP Decimator G-String (noise reducer)
• MXR M-169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay
• Morley ABY (A/B box for amplifier channel switching)

Notice I have overdrives before and after the wah...that way I can get two different types of wah tone (a overdrive sound that is wah'd and a wah tone that is overdriven).

Also, I put the fuzz after the wah, because I got the best "Hendrix-y" wah sound by turning on the TS9 (before the wah) and turning on the fuzz (after the wah); it gets the quacky "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" sound that so many of us love.
