(1) The Blues Brothers featuring " Aaa Rrruubbberrr Bissscuit "
(2) Bad Blake " Crazy Heart "
(3) Spinal Tap if for no other reason that it points out just how ridiculous the entertainment industry can be

I hate to say it but the room is showing our age!!! While all of the posted have great faux bands. How about something new DETHKLOC!!! So brutal

"Dethklok is both a fictional death metal band featured in the Adult Swim animated program Metalocalypse, created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, and the virtual band created to perform the band's music in live shows. The band is sometimes cited as an example of "comedy rock" on par with bands such as GWAR Tenacious D Steel Panther and Spinal Tap. The first Dethklok album was released on September 25, 2007, entitled The Dethalbum. The music heard on Metalocalypse is performed by Brendon Small, with others as needed. Small and drummer Gene Hoglan performed on the album. The album debuted at #21 on the Billboard Top 200 list." taken from Dethklok wiki page, Markd

Even though the band is fictional, I thought it at the very least had to be real people portraying a fictional band, not cartoon characters. ( Spinal Tap..live cartoon characters :lol: )

Wow... can't believe nobody hit upon:

The Soggy Bottom Boys ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?")
The Cantina Band ("Star Wars")

If you want to be a bit snarky about it, you could also include:

Buddy Holly as portrayed by Gary Busey ("The Buddy Holly Story")
The Monkeys ("The Monkeys")

Hey, Tenacious D really exist! :D

1 - Spïnal Tap (Spinal Tap)
2 - The Rutles (All You Need Is Cash)
3 - Soggy Bottom Boys (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?)
4 - Steel Dragon (Rock Star)
5 - The Traveling Wilburys [dunno if they count]
6 - Mr Spock & Miss Uhura (Star Trek Original Series, can't remember the episode number but here's a link - sweet but hard to bear.)
7 - The Hunlets (from Monty Python's Flying Circus-episode "The Attila The Hun-Show")

And last but not least... Milli Vanilli! :lol:

Really :?: :?: Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison :shock: :shock:

I wish all music acts would fall under those guy's criteria of musicality.
It would save us the listeners from some hideously horrifying muzak. :lol:

Sick Dick and the Volkswagens, from Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49."

If only because I was, however briefly, in a real-life band with the same name.

Just had to say that I don't count the Blues Brothers as a fictional band. I saw them in concert in 1978 and they were most definitely real 8)

As for truly fictional bands, when I was a kid my favorite was the Banana Splits.

Hey Strato, thanks for taking me back, the ones I was thinking of were from my childhood too:

- The Monkees;
- The Partridge Family;
- The groups the cast formed on Gilligan's Island when The Mosquitos (I think) were marooned with them);
