Sounds good Mike - that's how a Tele should sound!

If that be the case listen to some more blues phrasing.....Start bending notes a bit more Mike, Not so straight and clean, you have to get dirty!!  . You have the skills you just need the bluesy phrasing feel. I am gunna say it and everyone is going to roll their eyes but Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Or Robben Ford, Or Martin Scofield as i have just found though the good people here. As i said you have skills so the feel should now be the easy part!!! Have a ball!!! Blues will change you though i warn you!!!

I love the blues so much, I just wish someone could listen to me play and see that influence on my style, I try to take things from many styles and then make it my own

I hate to bust-up this little love-fest, but I think the kid deserves a little more in the way of help through constructive criticism.

You know where you eventually want to be and you know that you're nowhere near there now. That said, it sounds to me like you're on the right track.

You need to take a step back and use your ears (Much more important than your hands, BTW) to honestly compare what you've laid down here to the way an accomplished player (SRV, Clapton, take your pick) would have done it.

Some clues:

Vibrato...it's hard to learn and takes a long time, but once you learn it, you can play ONE note that will make your "short riff" pale in comparison.

Bending...see above.

Harmony...I know your testosterone-soaked brain is thinking "chords are for rhythm players and rhythm players are pussies" (I know, I was there once too). But the ability to color those boring phrases by throwing in some double-stops and triads is the REAL secret behind the genius of guys like Jimi, Stevie, and Eddie. Again, It's hard work that will pay off in spades once it clicks for you.

Lastly, don't even think about worrying what WE think until you've satisfied YOU.

You're right, of course, but I don't think the kid really NEEDS a whole lot of ego-boosting or "positive reinforcement". The fact that he put himself out there for the world to see at this stage in his development tells me that he's got heart and desire and that his ego is firmly in check.

That said, I WILL point out that he's already won a major victory in getting that pinkie-finger working....and I'm not being flippant, either. It's a handicap that has plagued me for 30 years.

Again, you're on the right track, son.
