My vote goes to Hendrix and Clapton, though I think Jimmy Page could have been in the list.

Mark Knopfler has always been one of my favorites, but not sure about best in the world. Brian Setzer should be on this list, as well as Richard Thompson. BB King is way overrated, along with Gilmour, and Satriani. Clapton is good at what he does, but not a virtuoso anymore.

Ok I just couldn't take this blasphemy no more, sorry all you Hendrix and Page worshipers but the Jimmy's were sloppy, inconsistant, and had no idea how to be loud and good at the same time...not even on their best days. They did write some very good songs, but playing them was not thier strongest talent.

And there is only one measuring stick in the word of guitar players and his nickname is God...Clapton is the best and the rest are wanna be disciples...Ok now everyone can be P. O.'d but the truth has been born out over the past 4 decades of his playing...

prince is a fine musician. hes proven that for the last 20 plus yrs.
can he play guitar? hell yes he can. anybody that tries to take anything away from prince is an idiot in my opinion. you might not like him or his music, but you can not deny his presence in music and on the bilboard charts for the last 20 yrs. the man is a musical genius to say the least, and paid in full.
