im just still amazed that sonny landreth still hasnt gotten a vote yet.
has anybody on here heard this guy play? hes amazing.
if i even did pick i couldnt pick robert cray. he wouldnt come close either.
what i will say about him is the fact that the mans voice was made to be heard
with a strat. his clean tone is crystal clear at its worst even.
the man has a talent and it would be a shame if he were stuck doing anything else than what he does now. i would love to see him live and up close. if there were a flavor
called smooth blues, it would be all his.

There is NO SUCH THING as the best guitar player in the world. EVERY player has their own style, flash, technique and anything else that goes with it. Example: some people say that Eddie Van Halen blows BB King off the stage, or Steve Vai is better than Clapton....... well no neither of those are true. You'd probably never see them on the same stage, completely different styles of playing and music. Every guitarist has their favorite that influences their playing style, and we all incorporate our hero's style into our own. I have many favorites myself.

So as far as a "best in the world".......... well it dont exist. No player is better than any other, just different. The only difference between players is the amount of experience they have, and the ones with not much experience should look up to and respect and try to learn from the ones that do. Thats my opinion anyway.

well, i said that because in just about every post of yours, you seem to present your OPINION as fact. it is not. it is an opinion.
its an excepted fact that jimi hendrix is the greatest guitarist ever, he died because GOD wanted guitar lessons,
no, its really not a FACT.... was he f**kin good? yes. the best? hell no.
the best? hell yes
he was the best of his time, and he started the whole thing......i think anyway

the answers obvious; nevin the great

With all respect.

I don't know who the best is, or if there is a best, but some earthlings are just plain gifted. Check out the korean child prodogy on youtube "Sungha Jung."

Jimi Hendrix died from a drug overdose. His style was a synthesis of other musicians he admired and the drugs he used. I understand a lot of people admire him, and he was talented, and in rock and roll forums he gets the nod a great deal, but that's a very narrow slice of the pie of the world of guitarists.

Personally, I have given trying classify "the best" The only thing I am certain of is that is not me.

It's the guitar player you've never heard of (yet) that's out there 5 to 7 nights a week playing with several bands in roadhouses, dives and bars for people who don't appreciate what they're hearing.

Um I always answer this "I cant pick a 'best guitarist in the world." I have my favorites but in music, no one is "the best"

I will tell you who makes a serious run for best guitar player in the world with a resume that likely no one else can match ...

Steve Howe from Yes:
- Incredibly accomplished in numerous musical genres including rock, classical, jazz, blues, ragtime, etc.
- Knows how to play almost every stringed instrument on the planet, and that is not an exaggeration
- As deep as musical knowledge as any one on theory and timing signatures
- Vast knowledge of recording arts

Really ... how many people can you name that match the above? Clapton? Not even close. Halen? Nope. Satriani? No.

I think that the question "Who's the best guitarist in the world?" is a loaded question. It's like has been said here many times, it's a matter of opinion and that opens a whole can of worms. My favorites are Page, Gilmour and Hendrix but that doesn't mean anything to a metal fan, they would most likely choose Kirk Hammett or someone else. Jazz players might choose George Benson, where a hardcore blues fan might say John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters. It's really not something to get your panties in a bunch over, we all have our preferences.

They are all some of the best in their own right.

Here is another great guitarist who owns a lot of great equipment.

comment away. taken out of context it could look like thats what I meant, but its not. THIS is what I said:
